RESIDUES TREATMENT EFFECTS<br />

Major shrubs responded to the residues treatments <strong>in</strong> about the same manner as they<br />

did to si 1 vicul ture treatments. The understory-protected treatment produced decidedly<br />

more shrub biomass than the other three residues treatments, with biomass of the major<br />

shrubs on the understory-protected treatment a1 ready approach<strong>in</strong>g its preharvest level<br />

after only 4 years (fig. 18). Meanwhile, the other three residues treatments reached<br />

about one-fourth of their preharvest level.<br />
