of any kind to be caused to any person, either by the offender<br />

or any other person, if the demand is not complied with,<br />

takes or entices away, or detains, the person in respect of<br />

whom the threats are made; or<br />

(2) Receives or harbours the said person in respect of whom<br />

the threats are made, knowing such person to have been so<br />

taken or enticed away, or detained;<br />

is guilty of a crime which is called kidnapping for ransom.<br />

Any person who commits the crime of kidnapping for ransom is<br />

liable to imprisonment with hard labour for fourteen years.<br />

If the person kidnapped has been set at liberty in any manner what-<br />

soever without such person having suffered any grievous bodily ham,<br />

the offender is liable to imprisonment with hard labour for ten years.<br />

Any person who attempts to commit the crime of kidnapping for<br />

ransom is guilty of a crime and is liable to imprisonment with hard labour<br />

for seven years.<br />

<strong>The</strong> wife of the accused person is a competent but not a compellable<br />

witness.<br />

deprives another of his personal liberty, is guilty of a misdemeanour, and"<br />

Any person who-<br />

(1) Being required by law to give any certificate touching any<br />

matter by virtue whereof the liberty of any person may be<br />

affected, gives a certificate which, in any material particular,<br />

is to his knowledge false; or<br />

(2) Not being a person authorised by law to give such a certificate<br />

as aforesaid, gives such a certificate, and represents himself<br />

to be a person authorised to give the same;<br />

is guilty of a misdemeanour, and is liable to imprisonment with hard<br />

labour for three years.<br />

icting ~~~~~~y~ Any person who-<br />

(1) Being required by law to keep any record touching any<br />

matter relating to any person in confinement, refuses or<br />

neglects to keep such record, or makes in such record, an<br />

entry which, in any material particular, is to his knowledge<br />

false; or<br />

(2) Being required by law to give any information to any person<br />

touching any person in confinement, or to show to any person<br />

any person in confinement, or any place in which a person<br />

is confined-<br />

(a) Refuses or neglects to give such information, or to show<br />

such person or place, to any person to whom he is so<br />

required to give the information or show the person or<br />

place; or<br />

(b) Gives to any person to whom he is so required to give it,<br />

i~o~mation touching any such matter which, in any<br />

material particular, is to his knowledge false;<br />

is guilty of a misdemeanour, and is liable to imprison~ent for three years.
