50 s.80 CRIMINAL CODE<br />

<strong>The</strong> term also includes any person who is declared by any Statute<br />

to be a pirate.<br />

<strong>The</strong> act of any such person is called piracy.<br />

following, that is to say,-<br />

Ping a British subject, and being at any place within the<br />

jurisdiction of the Admiralty commits, under colour of a<br />

commission from a Foreign State or Prince whether such<br />

State or Prince is at war with the Sovereign or not, or under<br />

pretence of authority from any person whatever, any act of<br />

hostility, or any act which, if it were committe~ on land,<br />

oudd be robbery as hereinafter defined, against another<br />

itish subject; or<br />

subject, is in any way adherent to or gives<br />

sty’s enemies at any place within the jurisdmiralty,<br />

during any war; or<br />

hether being a British subject or not, forcibly enters a<br />

itish ship at any place within the jurisdiction of the<br />

Admiralty, and throws overboard or destroys any part of the<br />

goods or merchandise belonging to the ship or laden upon<br />

it; or<br />

eing ria board a British ship at any place within the jurisdiction<br />

of the Admiralty-<br />

Turns pirate, enemy, or rebel, and piratically runs away<br />

with the ship, or any boat, ordnance, am~unition, CF goods<br />

belonging to it or laden upon it; or<br />

~~luntarjly yields up the ship or any such thing as last<br />

mentioned to a pirate; or<br />

rings a seducing message from a pirate, enemy, or rebel;<br />

or<br />

Consults or conspires with, or attempts to corrupt, any<br />

master or officer of a ship, or any seaman, with intent that<br />

he should run away with or yield up any ship, goods, or<br />

merchandise, or turn pirate, or go over to pirates; or<br />

Lays violent hands on the master of the ship, with intent<br />

to hinder him from fighting in defence of the ship and<br />

goods committed to his trust; or<br />

Confines the master of the ship; or<br />

Makes, or endeavours to make, a revolt in the ship; or<br />

(5) Being a British subject in any part of the world, or, whether<br />

being a British subject or not, being in any part of Her<br />

Majesty’s dominions, or on board a British ship in any part<br />

of the world, knowingly-<br />

(h) Trades with a pirate in any manner whatever; or<br />

(i) Furnishes a pirate with ammunition, provisions, or stores<br />

of any kind; or<br />

(j) Fits out a ship or vessel with a design to trade with OH<br />

supply or correspond with, a pirate; or<br />

(k) Conspires or corresponds with a pirate;<br />

is also deemed to be a pirate, and his act is also called piracy.
