re. Such summary jurisdiction is to be exercised in the<br />

subject to the conditions prescribed in Chapter XLIII with<br />

respect to the summary trial and punishment of oflenders who may be<br />

summarily convicted of indictable offences under the provisions of that<br />

Chapter.<br />

justices are of opinion that the injuiy is of so trivial<br />

a nature as not to deserve any punishment, they may convict the defend an^<br />

rosecuted for the same cause, as for an offence, on the complaint of the<br />

CHAPTER XLVIII-FORGERY IN GENERAL : DEFINITIONS<br />

~~~~~~~~ In this Division of this Part of this <strong>Code</strong>-<br />

<strong>The</strong> term 6‘document” includes a register or register-book or part<br />

of either, and any other book, and any paper, parchment, or other<br />

material whatever, used for writing or printing, which is marked with<br />

any letters or marks denoting words, or with any other signs capable of<br />

conveying a definite meaning to persons conversant with them; but does<br />

not include trade marks on articles of commerce;<br />

<strong>The</strong> term “writing” includes an inscription on wood, stone, metal,<br />

or other material: ft also includes a mere signature and a mark of any<br />

kind;<br />

<strong>The</strong> term “seal” includes any stamp, die, or other thing, of whatever<br />

material, from which an impression can be taken by means of pressure<br />

or of ink, or by any other means;<br />

<strong>The</strong> term “bank note’’ includes any negotiable instmment issued by<br />

or on behalf of any person or corporation in any part of the world, or<br />

issued by the authority of any State, Prince, or Government, and intended<br />

to be used as equivalent to money, either immediately on issue or at any<br />

time afterwards: It also includes a bank bill or bank post bill.<br />

(a) In the case of a document which is a register or record kept<br />

by lawful authority, or an entry in any such register, or<br />

which purports to be issued by lawful authority as testifying<br />

to the contents of any register or record kept by lawful<br />

authority, or as testifying to any fact or event, if any material<br />

particular stated in the document is untrue;
