CRIMINAL CODE SS. 218-220 83<br />

A person cannot bo convicted of any of the offences defined in this<br />

section upon the uncorroborated testimony of one witness.<br />

<strong>The</strong> husband or wife of the accused person is a competent but not a<br />

compellable witness.<br />

As amended by Age of Majority <strong>Act</strong> 1974, No. 57, s. 8 Sch.<br />

Procuring defilement of Woman by Threats, or Fraud, or A<br />

Drugs. Any person who-<br />

(1) By threats or intimidation of any kind procures a woman or<br />

girl to have unlawful carnal connection with a man, either<br />

in <strong>Queensland</strong> or elsewhere; or<br />

(2) By any false pretence procures a woman or girl, who is not<br />

a common prostitute or of known immoral character, to<br />

have unlawful carnal connection with a man, either in<br />

<strong>Queensland</strong> or elsewhere; or<br />

(3) Administers to a woman or girl, or causes a woman or girl<br />

to lake, any drug or other thing with intent to stupefy or<br />

overpower her in order to enable any man, whether a<br />

particular man or not, to have unlawful carnal knowledge<br />

of her;<br />

is guilty of a misdemeanour, and is liable to imprisonment with hard<br />

labour for two years.<br />

<strong>The</strong> husband or wife of the accused person is a competent but not<br />

a compellable witness.<br />

Ab~~c~~on of Girl under E i ~ with ~ ~ intent ~ ~ to n have Carnal<br />

ledge. Any person who, with intent that an unmarried girl under<br />

the age of eighteen years may be unlawfully carnally known by any<br />

man, whether a particular man or not, takes her or causes her to be<br />

taken out of the custody or protection of her father or mother, or other<br />

person having the lawlul care or charge of her, and against the will of<br />

such father or mother 01: other person, is guilty of a misdemeanour, and<br />

is liable to imprisonment with hard labour for two years.<br />

It is a defence to a charge of any of the offences defined in this section<br />

to prove that the accused person believed, on reasonable grounds, that<br />

the girl was of or above the age of eighteen years.<br />

<strong>The</strong> husband or wife of the accused person is a competent but not a<br />

compellable witness.<br />

220. ~~~W~~ etentisn with Intent to rothel. Any person<br />

Who-<br />

(1) Detains a woman or girl against her will in or upon any<br />

premises in order to her being unlawfully carnally known by<br />

any man, whether a particular man or not; or<br />

(2) Detains a woman or girl against her will in a brothel;<br />

is guilty of a misdemeanour, and is liable to imprisonment with hard<br />

labour for two years.<br />

<strong>The</strong> husband or wife of the accused person is a competent but not a<br />

compellable witness.<br />

When a woman or girl is in or upon any premises in order to her<br />

being ~nlawfully carnally known by any man, whether a particular man<br />

or not, or is in a brothel, a person is deemed to detain such woman or
