Once again, the list is not exhaustive, <strong>and</strong> made on the observ<strong>at</strong>ions while walking. But<br />

the interesting fe<strong>at</strong>ure was th<strong>at</strong> many of the ponds <strong>and</strong> streams disappeared with the<br />

transform<strong>at</strong>ion of the parambas which held them.<br />

All this points to the transform<strong>at</strong>ion of the pristine parambas <strong>and</strong> w<strong>at</strong>er resources, but the<br />

condition of the low-lying regions is equally alarming. The low lying regions are either<br />

formed on the banks of Kadalundi River or on both sides of numerous streams th<strong>at</strong> flow<br />

into the river. Kizhakkethodu, th<strong>at</strong> flows from the hills near Malappuram, flows virtually<br />

parallel to the river on the north <strong>and</strong> falls into the river near parakkadavu, perunthodu ,<br />

th<strong>at</strong> has its origins from the Vail<strong>at</strong>hur hill , flows northwards <strong>and</strong> joins the challi in the<br />

large muddy low area called venchalli in which kappuchalli mentioned above appears,
