tend to be rare. This law is perhaps better known than the first law.<br />

Zipf also pointed out that the more frequent a word is, the more meanings it<br />

is likely to have. He calls this the ‘law of meaning’.<br />

Zipf (1949) relates all these laws to the principle of least effort.<br />
