greater amount of time allotted to preaching.<br />

As outlined below, responses to questions fifteen<br />

and sixteen also reveal how the educational setting<br />

influences the teaching of preaching.<br />

All the university theological colleges employ some<br />

form of field education in preaching. But, of the<br />

'related' colleges, only ninety percent do so, while of<br />

the independent colleges, eighty percent.<br />

A third of the university colleges directly relate<br />

preaching to other theological disciplines. Just<br />

one—sixth of the 'related' colleges have established this<br />

interaction, while barely more than a tenth of the<br />

independent colleges have set up this critical tie.<br />

Similarly, ei ghty—three percent of the preaching<br />

lecturers at universities see benefit in their students'<br />

education in the arts and sciences. The percentages at<br />

'related' and independent colle ges are much smaller,<br />

fifty—nine percent and twenty percent, respectively.<br />

These three data lines may indicate that university<br />

preaching lecturers (and 'related' college lecturers, to<br />

a lesser degree) seek, for their students, a greater<br />

breadth of experience and knowledge.<br />

None of the university theological faculties employ<br />

college chapel services as part of preaching education.<br />

A potential explanation? The university setting may be<br />

less likely than the other two settings to hold such<br />

services regularly.<br />
