In a study of these three questions, we return to the<br />

writings of the four preacher—theologians with whom the<br />

greatest number of lecturers identify. This re—examination<br />

of the theologians' thought enables a comparison of each<br />

one's positions with the opinions of those lecturers who<br />

follow his thinking. Do they follow that thought closely or<br />

have they modified it?<br />

The survey responses alone merely demonstrate each<br />

theological grouping's unique pattern of answers to three<br />

critical questions. In order to be more certain of a cause<br />

(i.e, the theologian with whom the lecturer identifies) and<br />

effect (the content of the lecturer's teaching of preaching)<br />

relationsh1p, 11 we must compare the lecturers composite<br />

replies to the three questions with the answers the<br />

theologians themselves would have given.<br />

II. Comparison of Survey Responses to Theologians'<br />

Positions<br />

A. D. Martyn Lloyd—Jones<br />

Martyn Lloyd—Jones held relatively straightforward<br />

views which fall theologically to the right of the other<br />

models. His opinions serve well as a point of comparison,<br />

so we begin with him.<br />

Lecturers identifying with Lloyd—Jones mentioned the<br />

Bible most frequently (more often than lecturers associated<br />

with the other three theologians) in response to three<br />
