A clearer picture of the position of the theologians<br />

relative to each other is seen in a comparison of, not<br />

merely the raw totals of their numeric positions, but, their<br />

numeric deviations from one another.<br />

Using the figures in table 4.1, I have compiled the<br />

average deviations of each theologian from the other six.<br />

(For example, the numbers representing Fosdick's and<br />

Bultmann's positions on the six spectrums were as follows:<br />

HF 1 3 6 2 2 1<br />

RB 6 4 8 7 4 10<br />

The differences between these numbers are:<br />

5 1 2 5 2 9<br />

The average of those six differences is 4.)<br />
