servants, and by revealing His message to them and by<br />

enabling them to record it--that is the claim for the<br />

inspiration of the Bible." 1 ' The Bible is not merely<br />

a form of revelation, it is revelation, a complete,<br />

closed revelation. "In this book (the Bible], we have<br />

the only account of God that man has. What can we know<br />

about God truly except what we are told in this<br />

book?"'<br />

Because of the • static nature of revelation, the<br />

content of preaching is equally constant. "God does not<br />

change . . . Man does not change." 1 '1' There is but<br />

"ONE Gospel--the ONLY Gospel. It is for the whole world,<br />

and the whole of humanity."17<br />

Lloyd-Jones's views on the authority of Scripture<br />

gave a similar authority to preaching.<br />

The gospel of Jesus Christ is not something<br />

which offers itself to us for debate or<br />

discussion, but for our definite acceptance and<br />

belief. It desires not our approval but<br />

demands our obedience. It does not court<br />

discussion but rather commands diligence. Our<br />

Lord . . . did . . . what He expects His<br />

servants and representatives always to do. He<br />

did not so much answer this man's (the inquirer<br />

mentioned in Luke 13.23) question as tell him<br />

what to do. He did not lead discussions, He<br />

gave instructions. 'e<br />

A literal interpretation of Scripture led<br />

Lloyd-Jones to a traditional, conservative position on<br />

the person of Jesus Christ.<br />

What makes me a Christian is to believe and<br />

accept the testimony that Jesus is the only<br />

begotten Son of God, that he was born of the<br />

Virgin Mary, that He was born in a miraculous<br />

manner, that He worked miracles, that He was<br />

transfigured on the holy mount, that He did
