General Information<br />

This was the first endowed chair in the history<br />

of the then 93-year-old institution.<br />

The Hauber Chair involves an endowment for<br />

investment with interest earned used solely for<br />

the Biology Department.<br />

Baecke Chair of Humanities<br />

The Albert and Rachel Baecke Chair of<br />

Humanities was established in 1981 when<br />

endowment of the Chair was initiated by a sizable<br />

gift of stock shares to <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> from the<br />

Baeckes, former residents of East Moline, Ill.,<br />

who had moved to Clearwater, Fla. Mr. Baecke<br />

died there in 1985.<br />

The Baecke Chair, which rotates among the<br />

academic areas of the humanities, enhances the<br />

teaching and learning experience in the humanities,<br />

which are considered the heart of learning in<br />

a liberal arts college. Priority funding is given to<br />

curriculum and faculty development.<br />

The Chair of Catholic <strong>St</strong>udies<br />

The <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> <strong>University</strong> Chair of Catholic<br />

<strong>St</strong>udies was established by the <strong>University</strong> in the<br />

spring of 1986 to address concerns of a religious<br />

nature.<br />

The Chair provides for guest lecturers in fields<br />

which are of direct concern to the Catholic community<br />

and the greater community at large.<br />

Among others, these fields include theology, history,<br />

literature, music, scripture, liturgy, and the<br />

natural and social sciences.<br />
