Graduate Curricula<br />

prerequisites. In order to advance into the MPT<br />

program during their senior year, these student<br />

must meet the Track I/Phase B college requirements<br />

prior to January 15 of their junior year.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents who do not meet advancement criteria<br />

remain eligible to apply to the program through<br />

Track II or Track III.<br />

Track I / Phase A<br />

High School Prerequisites<br />

To apply for a Track I position high school<br />

seniors will need to:<br />

• Meet the entrance requirements of SAU.<br />

• Have completed the equivalent of one year<br />

each of high school biology and chemistry.<br />

One year of high school physics is strongly<br />

recommended.<br />

• Attain a minimum of 3.5/4.0 high school<br />

GPA.<br />

• Score a minimum of 24 on the ACT or 1090<br />

on the SAT.<br />

• Have completed, and provide documentation<br />

of at least 20 hours of observation with a<br />

licensed physical therapist in one or more<br />

physical therapy settings.<br />

• Complete an acceptable on-site personal interview<br />

with MPT faculty members.<br />

Track I / Phase B<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents accepted into Track I may declare any<br />

major, but majors in biology, bio-psychology, or<br />

psychology may be the most compatible with<br />

MPT prerequisite courses.<br />

Track I students will need to:<br />

• Complete the required courses for the declared<br />

undergraduate major at SAU in order to<br />

advance into the MPT program for their<br />

senior year.<br />

• Complete all prerequisites courses with a<br />

grade of “C” or above prior to entering the<br />

MPT program. <strong>St</strong>udents in Track I who will<br />

not complete the prerequisites by the January<br />

15 deadline must provide a detailed written<br />

plan of study for completion of the remaining<br />

courses prior to final admission into the MPT<br />

program.<br />

• Attain a minimum of 3.3 cumulative undergraduate<br />

GPA.<br />

• Attain a minimum of 3.3 undergraduate science<br />

GPA.<br />

• Score at least 1500 on the GRE, with no single<br />

score below 400.<br />

• Complete the SAU Admission to Graduate<br />

<strong>St</strong>udies Application form.<br />

• Document at least 50 hours of observation<br />

with a licensed physical therapist in one or<br />

more settings (may include the 20 hours completed<br />

for Phase A).<br />

• Submit official transcripts from all undergraduate<br />

institutions attended.<br />

• Complete the unofficial SAU PT Transcript<br />

Evaluation form.<br />

• Provide two favorable references from SAU<br />

faculty.<br />

• Complete an acceptable on-site personal interview<br />

with MPT faculty members.<br />

Track II<br />

Track II is a “3+2.5” plan of study (three years<br />

of undergraduate study plus two-and-a-half years<br />

in the MPT program). The first year of MPT<br />

courses is applied toward completion of the<br />

undergraduate degree, which must be awarded<br />

prior to the beginning of the second year of the<br />

MPT program. <strong>St</strong>udents from institutions other<br />

than SAU may also utilize Track II. To be eligible<br />

for this track, students are required to have:<br />

• Completed all bachelor’s degree requirements<br />

in their major other than those to be completed<br />

in the first year of the MPT program.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents from institutions other than <strong>St</strong>.<br />

<strong>Ambrose</strong> <strong>University</strong> will need a letter from the<br />

respective Registrar’s Office indicating that the<br />

first year of MPT courses will be credited<br />

toward the bachelor’s degree. (These students<br />

may obtain first year financial aid through the<br />

TERI loan program.)<br />

• A bachelors degree must be competed prior to<br />

enrollment, or a plan of study to complete the<br />
