MBAH 756. Information Systems Management<br />

in Health Care<br />

3 credits<br />

Focuses on the role of the manager in relation to<br />

the organization’s database system. A study of<br />

computer technology, data structure and development<br />

of data support systems is included. Specific<br />

issues covered are the relationship of the mainframe<br />

to the personal computer, the creation and<br />

use of spreadsheets, the provision of computer<br />

security, and the development of auditing techniques<br />

through effective use of the information<br />

system.<br />

MBAH 758. Health Care Integrated Delivery<br />

Systems Management<br />

3 credits<br />

Intended to focus on the concept of Integrated<br />

Delivery Systems (IDS). The IDS has recently<br />

become significant in the strategic planning of<br />

health care systems. IDS are totally integrated<br />

health care systems both horizontally and vertically<br />

in the community. The focus of IDS is to<br />

provide the community with total management of<br />

health and health care services for the prevention,<br />

treatment, and management of disease processes.<br />

IDS represent comprehensive and complex interrelationships<br />

between many organizations in the<br />

community providing health services such as<br />

screening procedures, preventive inoculation programs,<br />

home health services, long-term care facilities,<br />

acute care facilities and outpatient surgical<br />

treatment facilities to name only a few.<br />

Prerequisites: MBA 626, 635, 670, 675, 680,<br />

685, MBAH 756.<br />

MBAH 799. Professional Ethics in Health Care<br />

Management<br />

3 credits<br />

Designed to emphasize the manager’s responsibility<br />

to society to develop systems that allow the<br />

most cost effective health care to be provided to<br />

the entire population. Issues examined include<br />

the exclusion of segments of society from health<br />

care due to cost, duplication of health services in<br />

a community, and management of higher costs<br />

associated with chronic illnesses and increased<br />

longevity without a reduction in the quality of<br />

care. Also, subjects that often create controversial<br />

situations are reviewed, such as living wills,<br />

organ donation, etc. Prerequisite: MBA 635.<br />

MBAH 805. Selected Issues in Health Care<br />

Management<br />

3 credits<br />

Expands on current issues in health care that will<br />

be important o the health care manager. This will<br />

be an executive seminar course, with case studies<br />

and student presentations. The focus will be on<br />

issues not covered in the prerequisite and ethics<br />

courses. Topics will include managed care and<br />

benefits administration, use of PC work stations<br />

as a management tool (spreadsheets, graphs,<br />

etc.), health care politics, geriatrics/eldercare and<br />

its financing, understanding staffing techniques,<br />

total quality management in the health care<br />

industry, and CEO management skills in a health<br />

care organization. Prerequisites: MBAH 526,<br />

635, 640.<br />
