General Information<br />

its according to the following requirements:<br />

• For transfer students, no more than 60<br />

semester credits from two year institutions<br />

may count toward the 120 semester credits<br />

required for the degree. Exceptions may be<br />

approved by the Board of <strong>St</strong>udies on an individual<br />

basis. The final 30 semester credits or<br />

45 of the last 60 semester credits are to be<br />

earned at <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong>.<br />

•No more than 42 semester credits earned in<br />

any one department may be counted toward<br />

the 120 semester credits required for the degree<br />

(except for the following majors: 43<br />

credits in chemistry; 44 credits in art; 54<br />

credits in communication, criminal justice,<br />

economics and business administration, languages<br />

and theatre; 55 credits in physical<br />

education; 57 credits in elementary education;<br />

and 60 credits in computer science and<br />

mathematics.)<br />

Note on requirements for the following eight<br />

undergraduate degrees: The requirement to<br />

demonstrate proficiency in Information Literacy<br />

Skills described in requirement 3, and the<br />

Writing Intensive requirement described in<br />

requirement 10 of the preceding Bachelor of Arts<br />

degree section also are required for the Bachelor<br />

of Arts in Special <strong>St</strong>udies, Bachelor of Science,<br />

Bachelor of Music Education, Bachelor of<br />

Science in Industrial Engineering, Bachelor of<br />

Business Administration, Bachelor of Elected<br />

<strong>St</strong>udies, and Bachelor of Applied Management<br />

Technology.<br />

Bachelor of Science Degree Requirements<br />

In order to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree<br />

from <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> <strong>University</strong> with 120 semester<br />

credits, students need to:<br />

1. Complete a major in Biology, Chemistry,<br />

Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or<br />

Psychology. Courses in the major department<br />

and in other departments required for the<br />

major may also be used to meet general degree<br />

requirements where applicable.<br />

2. Complete requirements two through eleven as<br />

stated in the Bachelor of Arts Degree requirements<br />

in this section of the catalog.<br />

Bachelor of Music Education Degree<br />

Requirements<br />

In order to earn a Bachelor of Music Education<br />

Degree from <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> <strong>University</strong> with 136<br />

semester credits, students need to:<br />

1. Complete the requirements for a Bachelor of<br />

Music Education Degree as described in the<br />

Music Department section. Courses in the<br />

major and in other departments required for<br />

the major also may be used to meet general<br />

degree requirements where applicable.<br />

2. Complete requirements two through eleven as<br />

stated in the Bachelor of Arts Degree requirements<br />

in this section of the catalog.<br />

Bachelor of Arts in Special <strong>St</strong>udies Degree<br />

Requirements<br />

<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> offers registered nurses and allied<br />

health professionals a program leading to a<br />

Bachelor of Arts in Special <strong>St</strong>udies.<br />

Registered nurses who have completed an<br />

Associate Degree in Nursing or a two-year hospital<br />

nursing program may receive 60 semester<br />

credit hours and need to complete 60 semester<br />

credits to obtain the Bachelor of Arts in Special<br />

<strong>St</strong>udies. Additional hours beyond the 60 credits<br />

for nursing studies (up to a maximum of 90 credit<br />

hours) may be obtained from college courses<br />

taken after completion of nursing studies,<br />

through completion of CLEP exams, or for certain<br />

non-collegiate programs recognized by the<br />

American Council on Education.<br />

Registered nurses who have completed threeyear<br />

hospital diploma programs may receive 90<br />

hours of credit and need to complete 30 semester<br />

credits for the 120 hours required for the<br />

Bachelor of Arts in Special <strong>St</strong>udies.<br />

Allied health professionals (licensed practical<br />

nurse, respiratory therapist, radiology technician,<br />
