LS 201, 202, 203. Advanced College<br />

Reading<br />

1 credit per course<br />

Three-credit course offered spring semester.<br />

Course is divided into three five-week one-hour<br />

courses in vocabulary, rate and comprehension,<br />

and critical reading. Includes intensive work in<br />

advanced vocabulary, introduces strategies for<br />

increasing reading rate and flexibility, and<br />

enables the student to improve ability to analyze<br />

and criticize texts. <strong>St</strong>udents may enroll in one,<br />

two, or all three segments.<br />

LS 399. Supplemental Instructor 2–4 credits<br />

<strong>St</strong>udent will serve as a supplemental instruction<br />

leader for a designated course. Enrollment only<br />

permitted by the SI supervisor.<br />

This department provides a comprehensive education<br />

in business that includes: (1) a broad foundation<br />

in liberal arts and sciences, (2) a general<br />

knowledge in all functional areas of business and<br />

economics, and (3) preparation for positions of<br />

responsibility and leadership. In addition, students<br />

achieve a certain degree of specialization in<br />

one of the six majors offered in the department.<br />

SOC 101; PHIL 201; THEO 250.<br />

Required Core Business and Economics Courses:<br />

BUS 201 (or BUS 301, 302); BUS 303, 305, 309,<br />

WI-310, 321 or 370, WI-350; ECON 312, 313.<br />

Major Requirements<br />

In addition to foundation and core courses, student<br />

must complete requirements for one of the<br />

following majors.<br />

General Business Non-Teaching Major: BUS 320,<br />

323, 332, 340; one of BUS 328, ECON 321,<br />

331.<br />

Economics Major: 12 semester hours in economics<br />

above the sophomore level and in addition to<br />

the core courses ECON 312, 313. MATH 191,<br />

192 recommended to pursue graduate work in<br />

economics.<br />

Finance Major: BUS 304, 306, 340; and any two<br />

of ECON 307, 331, BUS 335, ACCT 307.<br />

International Business Major: BUS 332, 349;<br />

ECON 331; IS 210; one of HIST 220, 225, 230,<br />

235, 338; PSCI 309 or 313 or 316; THEO 250<br />

or PHIL 390. <strong>St</strong>udy abroad for one semester or<br />

two field experiences (BUS 370 or course in other<br />

department, i.e. IS 108) for total six credits.<br />

Language competence in French, German or<br />

Spanish through 302 level and 311 (Business<br />

Language).<br />
