sities can apply for admission to <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> and<br />

the MOT program. <strong>St</strong>udents must be <strong>admit</strong>ted to<br />

the university as well as the MOT program.<br />

Admission to SAU does not guarantee advancement<br />

into the professional program. Transfer students<br />

should submit copies of all transcripts to<br />

the MOT Department. A photocopied catalog<br />

description of all transferred support courses<br />

must be submitted along with the application.<br />

These transcripts will be considered a part of the<br />

application and are necessary to determine<br />

admission and placement. Transcripts must be<br />

received by the application deadline.<br />

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants<br />

should contact the MOT Department to determine<br />

if prior coursework or work experience will<br />

be granted credit.<br />

Appeal Procedures for Progression and<br />

Retention/Readmission<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents have the right to appeal decisions related<br />

to admissions, progression, or retention to the<br />

Admissions and Retention Committee. All questions<br />

dealing with absence issues, GPA issues,<br />

leave of absence, etc will utilize this policy.<br />

Procedures:<br />

1. The student’s request from appeal must be<br />

made in writing to the chair of the Admissions<br />

and Retention Committee within two weeks<br />

of being notified of his/her status in the occupational<br />

therapy program.<br />

2. <strong>St</strong>udents must appeal decisions of the<br />

Admissions and Retention Committee by submitting<br />

written reasons for challenging the<br />

committee’s decision by the appeal date set by<br />

the committee.<br />

3. The student may attend the appeal meeting<br />

for the portion during which the challenge is<br />

read and may be asked to supply additional<br />

information orally.<br />

4. The student members of the Admissions and<br />

Retention Committee will participate in the<br />

appeal process.<br />

5. The student and faculty members of the<br />

Admissions and Retention Committee who<br />

have direct involvement in the case and who<br />

feel they are unable to act in good faith will<br />

excuse themselves from the appeals process. In<br />

those instances, alternate committee members<br />

will serve.<br />

6. The decision of the committee will be made by<br />

majority vote of those committee members<br />

present using a secret ballot.<br />

7. The student will be verbally informed by the<br />

chair of the committee after the meeting. The<br />

chair will write a letter regarding the decision<br />

to the student and a copy will be placed in the<br />

student’s file.<br />

8. The student has the right to appeal the committee’s<br />

decision to the dean of the College of<br />

Human Services in writing within one week<br />

after receiving notification of the decision.<br />

MOT Grading Policy<br />

A = 93 – 100%<br />

B+ = 91 – 92%<br />

B = 85 – 90%<br />

C+= 83 – 84%<br />

C = 77 – 82%<br />

D = 69 – 76%<br />

P: passing work completed in a course<br />

NP: not passing work completed in a course<br />

IP: in progress work (for students in courses that<br />

are not expected to be completed within the normal<br />

semester)<br />

<strong>St</strong>udent Retention<br />

Academic Performance<br />

1. If a student earns a “C” in any major content<br />

course the student must meet with their advisor<br />

to develop a remediation plan regardless<br />

of their GPA standing.<br />

2. If the student earns a grade lower than a “C”<br />

in any of the professional OT coursework, the<br />

student must re-take this course(s) and earn a<br />

grade of “C” or better to progress in the OT<br />

program, provided that the student maintains<br />

a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher. The student<br />

is allowed to re-take a course one time.<br />
