EDLS 645. School Supervision 3 credits<br />

A study of the problems, processes and techniques<br />

in the evaluation, supervision and<br />

improvement of instructional programs. Included<br />

throughout are principles of supervision, factors<br />

influencing effectiveness of instruction and<br />

teacher evaluation. The course focuses upon leadership<br />

roles necessary for creating a supportive<br />

climate for change and for implementing<br />

improved instructional programs. Course offered:<br />

Fall. Prerequisite: Graduate status.<br />

EDLS 650. Internship<br />

3 credits<br />

The purpose the EDLS 650 is to provide in-depth<br />

analysis and reflection of field experiences<br />

throughout the entire program. Group and individual<br />

presentations of field experiences will be<br />

made providing for student, professor, and mentor<br />

participation, analysis, evaluation, and recommendation.<br />

Course offered: Spring.<br />

Prerequisite: Graduate status.<br />

EDLS 655. Capstone<br />

3 credits<br />

The capstone experience is a graduate level class<br />

offered as a summative evaluation of the candidates’<br />

growth in the educational administration<br />

masters degree. Candidates will be given the<br />

opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge they<br />

have acquired by solving hypothetical problems<br />

they will face as building level administrators.<br />

Course offered: Spring. Prerequisite: Graduate<br />

status.<br />

EDUC 710. Research Methods 3 credits<br />

This course provides students with basic skills in<br />

conducting educational research including rationale,<br />

types of research methodology and ethics.<br />

EDUC 711. Research <strong>St</strong>atistics 3 credits<br />

This course is an introduction and application of<br />

descriptive statistics, correlation estimation, and<br />

hypothesis testing through the use of ANOVA<br />

and Chi Squares.<br />

SPED 751. <strong>St</strong>aff Development in<br />

the Schools<br />

3 credits<br />

Course will focus on skills in modes of intervention<br />

diagnosing problems and identifying target<br />

groups as part of the staff development process<br />

designed to improve schools. <strong>St</strong>udents will be<br />

concerned with planning, conducting, and evaluating<br />

staff development programs. Prerequisite:<br />

Currently held licensure in special education or<br />

permission of instructor.<br />

Special Education Endorsement Program<br />

The Special Education Endorsement program at<br />

<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> is designed to assist the further<br />

development of teaching skills specific to working<br />

with children and adolescents with special needs.<br />

The Special Education Endorsement program is<br />

committed to linking the practical application of<br />

teaching to the theoretical underpinnings<br />

involved in human motivation and learning.<br />

<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> <strong>University</strong> offers <strong>Iowa</strong> special<br />

education endorsement in the areas of mental disabilities<br />

and learning disabilities through this<br />

program. The mental disabilities endorsement<br />

program is a 38-41-semester hour training program<br />

while the learning disabilities endorsement<br />

program encompasses 38-41 semester hours. 400<br />

level courses can be taken after completion of a<br />

student’s sophomore year. 500 level courses can<br />

be taken at the graduate level for qualifying<br />

juniors and qualifying seniors can take 600 level<br />

courses (see degree requirements for qualification<br />

information). All courses numbered 500 or above<br />

may be transferred into the master’s degree program<br />

with advisor approval providing they meet<br />

the transfer policies of the Graduate Special<br />

Education programs.<br />
