Senior Design Seminar<br />

3 credits<br />

A significant project involving design or re-design<br />

of an operational product, process or procedure<br />

in either an industrial or a service setting. As a<br />

minimum, students will consider objectives and<br />

criteria, resources, interface with other functional<br />

areas, constraints, alternatives and operational<br />

specifications. The student will prepare a written<br />

report. Prerequisite: Completion of at least eleven<br />

IE courses, not including IE 450.<br />

Engineering Seminar<br />

Three seminars are required for all industrial<br />

engineering students at approximately first semester<br />

of the sophomore, junior and senior levels of<br />

the industrial engineering curriculum. Each seminar<br />

offering will be unique and will feature guests<br />

who are experienced in or are associated with<br />

engineering activities. Subjects may include typical<br />

industrial engineering on-the-job-activities,<br />

the engineering challenge, professional ethics,<br />

professional societies, professional engineering<br />

registration, career opportunities, computer and<br />

automation impact. Prerequisite: Industrial engineering<br />

student.<br />

Information Literacy<br />

Course Description<br />

IL 101. Information Literacy<br />

1 credit<br />

This course provides an introduction to techniques<br />

of information retrieval and information<br />

evaluation. <strong>St</strong>udents completing this course will<br />

have the skills needed to conduct undergraduate<br />

level research using print and online resources.<br />

Pass/No Pass course.<br />

The Department of Languages and International<br />

<strong>St</strong>udies offers a combination language major,<br />

with the first language option of Spanish.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents can also fulfill requirements for a<br />

Spanish major on campus, or they can complete a<br />

major in French, German or Spanish by studying<br />

abroad. A non-teaching minor is available in<br />

French, German and Spanish on campus and<br />

abroad. Education courses required for a teaching<br />

major or minor are found in the Education<br />

Department section. Details on programs both at<br />

home and abroad are available from the department<br />

chair. All language majors and minors must<br />

take at least six hours of language on the SAU<br />

campus.<br />

Those studying foreign language are encouraged<br />

to study abroad. For those who cannot do<br />

so, the requirements for a combination language<br />

major are 12 semester credits at the 300-level in<br />

the same first language, and six semester credits<br />

at the 300-level in the same second language.<br />

First language option on campus: Spanish.<br />

Second language options: French, German and<br />

Spanish.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents who seek to earn foreign language<br />

credits from an overseas program not sponsored<br />

by <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> need to receive departmental<br />

approval prior to going abroad.<br />

The department encourages students who<br />

have language experience, either through high<br />

school credit or because they are native speakers<br />

of languages other than English, to take CLEP<br />

exams. The department accepts up to 14 semester<br />

hours of credit, depending on the scores obtained<br />
