Prerequisites: 18 semester credits of sociology<br />

SOC 365. Social Gerontology<br />

3 credits<br />

<strong>St</strong>udy of human aging. This is a multidisciplinary<br />

endeavor in which fields such as sociology, psychology,<br />

social work, anthropology, political science,<br />

medicine, biology, and health contribute to<br />

our understanding of the various influences<br />

which impact individual lives during the aging<br />

process. While interdisciplinary in much of its<br />

content, it will be taught from the sociological<br />

perspective.<br />

+SOC 366. Race and Ethnicity 3 credits<br />

Historical, cultural and sociological aspects of<br />

groups in society characterized by discrimination<br />

and lack of power. Includes Native Americans,<br />

Black Americans, Spanish-speaking Americans,<br />

immigrant groups and women. (Same as<br />

HIST 366)<br />

SOC 370. Seminar in Selected Topics 3 credits<br />

Focuses on issues and topics not covered in other<br />

courses. Prerequisite: SOC 101 or instructor permission.<br />

SOC 381. Research Methods<br />

3 credits<br />

<strong>St</strong>udy of knowledge and how it is acquired in the<br />

social sciences. Includes exploratory research<br />

methods, participant observation, survey<br />

research, interviewing, sampling theory, questionnaire<br />

construction, data analysis. Prerequisites:<br />

SOC 101, 213. (PSYC 215 may be substituted<br />

for SOC 381 by double majors in sociology and<br />

psychology.)<br />

WI-SOC 385. Sociological Theory 3 credits<br />

Examines foundations of sociology through variety<br />

of historical and contemporary theoretical<br />

schools. Prerequisite: Nine semester credits in<br />

SOC 399. Independent <strong>St</strong>udy<br />

3 credits<br />

Directed individual reading, research and/or writing<br />

on topics approved by the department. Open<br />

only to junior and senior sociology majors.<br />

Prerequisite: Instructor permission.<br />

SOC 400. Senior Seminar<br />

3 credits<br />

Overview and integration of current trends in the<br />

discipline. Senior-level sociology majors only.<br />

Prerequisite: Instructor permission.<br />

+STAT 213. Applied <strong>St</strong>atistical Reasoning<br />

for the Sciences<br />

3 credits<br />

Cross-disciplinary course on how and why scientists<br />

use statistics to describe and interpret information<br />

they gather. Topics include descriptive<br />

statistics and basic inferential statistics.<br />

Prerequisites: Introductory course in major;<br />

MATH 121 or passing grade on screening test.<br />

Requirements for a Major in Theatre: 35 semester<br />

credits of theatre courses, including THTR<br />

202, 205, 209, 304, 305, 380, 480 and 18 semester<br />

Requirements for a Minor in Theatre: 17 semester<br />

credits of theatre courses, including<br />

THTR 202, 205, 209, 304, 380, 480, and three<br />

semester credits of theatre electives.<br />
