Graduate Curricula<br />

Minimum Acceptable GPA<br />

1. <strong>St</strong>udents must maintain a minimum GPA of<br />

3.0 on a 4.0 scale in the OT professional program<br />

coursework.<br />

Academic Probation<br />

1. If the student drops below a 3.0 GPA, the student<br />

will receive written notice from the OT<br />

department. The student will be placed on<br />

academic probation.<br />

Remediation and Retention<br />

1. When a student is placed on academic probation,<br />

they have two options:<br />

a. the student has one semester to bring their<br />

cumulative professional coursework GPA up<br />

to a minimum 3.0. If the student fails to do<br />

this, the student will be dropped from the program.<br />

b. the student can elect to re-take coursework for<br />

a second grade option to bring their cumulative<br />

professional coursework GPA up to a<br />

minimum 3.0. The student may not be<br />

enrolled in any professional OT courses until<br />

the second attempt has been successfully completed.<br />

Dismissal<br />

1. Dismissal from the <strong>University</strong> will automatically<br />

be considered dismissal from the OT<br />

program.<br />

MOT Graduation Requirements<br />

1. <strong>St</strong>udents must earn a baccalaureate degree<br />

prior to their third year in the MOT program.<br />

2. <strong>St</strong>udents must complete the 90 required MOT<br />

credit hours.<br />

3. <strong>St</strong>udents must complete at least two Special<br />

Topics OR Independent <strong>St</strong>udies OR Electives<br />

(approved by department) for a minimum of 2<br />

credits.<br />

4. <strong>St</strong>udents must maintain a cumulative GPA of<br />

3.0 in the MOT curriculum.<br />

5. <strong>St</strong>udents must successfully complete MOT<br />

650 and 655.<br />

Field Experience<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents will be completing field experience while<br />

enrolled in coursework at <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> and will<br />

be completing 24 weeks of full-time field experience<br />

upon completion of their MOT coursework.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents are responsible for their own transportation,<br />

travel and housing costs for these experiences.<br />

In addition, students will still be paying<br />

tuition while completing their field experience.<br />

Time Requirements for Completing Occupational<br />

Therapy Program<br />

The professional phase of the Occupational<br />

Therapy program falls into two categories:<br />

• Academic coursework on campus (5 semesters)<br />

• Level II Fieldwork (6 months)<br />

Academic<br />

The academic portion must be completed within<br />

60 months from initial entry into the program.<br />

Fieldwork<br />

Fieldwork experiences must be completed within<br />

24 months of fulfilling their academic portion.<br />

One Price Tuition Plan<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents in the MOT program will be included in<br />

the SAU One Price Tuition Plan. This tuition<br />

plan is higher than tuition for other SAU students<br />

but it will eliminate all course fees and includes<br />

some of the other miscellaneous costs incurred by<br />

occupational therapy students. The one price<br />

plan ensures that tuition costs remain at one rate<br />

throughout the normal course of graduate study<br />

making financial planning easier, and giving students<br />

the opportunity to take elective courses at<br />

no additional cost.<br />
