Painting II, continues the foundation study of oil<br />

painting. <strong>St</strong>udy of technical aspects of oil painting<br />

is combined with awareness of the medium’s<br />

expressive potential.<br />

ART 335, 336. Special Topics In<br />

<strong>St</strong>udio Art<br />

1–3 credits<br />

Advanced, guided work in chosen medium to<br />

meet specific needs of the art major. Prerequisite:<br />

Junior or senior standing, instructor permission.<br />

ART 340. Elementary Art Methods 3 credits<br />

Concentrates on visual aesthetics, 2 and 3 dimensional<br />

arts, national and state art standards, and<br />

other information useful to the elementary art<br />

teacher.<br />

ART 342. Secondary Art Methods 3 credits<br />

Concentrates on visual aesthetics, 2 and 3 dimensional<br />

arts, national and state art standards, and<br />

other information useful to the secondary art<br />

teacher.<br />

#-WI-ART 350. American Art 3 credits<br />

A chronological survey of the history of<br />

American art from the American Revolution until<br />

the second World War. Painting, sculpture, architecture,<br />

and the decorative arts will be studied.<br />

#-WI-ART 351. Art of the Modern<br />

World<br />

3 credits<br />

A study of the art of the 20th century.<br />

Investigates painting, sculpture, design, architecture<br />

and other media. Prerequisite: ART 251.<br />

#ART 352. Beyond the <strong>West</strong>ern World 3 credits<br />

As outlooks become more global, it is important<br />

to move outside of our <strong>West</strong>ern focus, to study<br />

the heritage of other continents. Covers the civilizations<br />

of the Americas and the developments<br />

of tribal art in Africa<br />

#ART 354. The Christian Heritage<br />

in Art<br />

3 credits<br />

The art of the Christian Church, from early<br />

Christian times to the present, has uniquely<br />

molded the art history of the western world. This<br />

course studies architecture, sculpture and painting<br />

created to serve the purposes of the Christian<br />

church from its inception to the present day.<br />

Prerequisites: ART 250 or 251.<br />

ART 400. Senior Honors: Fine Arts 1 credit<br />

Advanced studio work in student’s area of concentration.<br />

In addition to completing sufficient<br />

art work for the senior exhibit, students will create<br />

a resume, statement of artistic intent and a<br />

slide portfolio. Prerequisite: Permission of department<br />

chair.<br />

ART 401. Senior Honors:<br />

Graphic Design<br />

1 credit<br />

Advanced studio work in student’s area of concentration.<br />

In addition to completing sufficient<br />

ART 410. Graphic Design III<br />

3 credits<br />

Graphic design principles and skills are applied<br />

to projects at the professional level. The class is<br />

run like a design studio with budget and time<br />

constraints. Includes study of the Web within<br />

overall marketing strategy.<br />

ART 430, 431. Painting III, IV 3 credits<br />

These courses provide an opportunity for further<br />

investigation of oil painting. <strong>St</strong>udents will work<br />

towards a more individualized style and investigate<br />

the role of content in painting. Emphasis<br />

placed on the development of the skills necessary<br />

to convey ideas in a meaningful way.<br />

Prerequisites: ART 330, 331.<br />

ART 499. Internship in Art 1–6 credits<br />

Junior or senior level art students work to gain<br />

practical experience in the fields of commercial<br />

and fine art. Prerequisites: Junior or senior art<br />

major status and permission of advisor. Pass/No<br />

pass course.<br />
