This course provides instruction in beginning ballet<br />

This course provides instruction in aerobic dance.<br />

Professional Development Courses<br />

PED 113. Introduction to and History of Health,<br />

Physical Education, and Sport Science 2 credits<br />

Acquaints students with professions of Physical<br />

Education as a career.<br />

+PED 206. First Aid/CPR<br />

2 credits<br />

Safety awareness as an individual and as a member<br />

of society. Various first aid and CPR skills<br />

will be emphasized.<br />

PED 207. <strong>St</strong>unts & Tumbling<br />

1 credit<br />

Developmental approach to body management<br />

and strength building through stunts and tumbling<br />

activities. Emphasis on creativity, form and<br />

quality of performance. Skills progressions will<br />

be identified.<br />

PED 210. Games and Rhythms 2 credits<br />

Participation in games and rhythms related to<br />

elementary school children. Focus on inclusive<br />

strategies and adaptation of activities to specific<br />

grades. Minimal time on lesson plans, unit outlines,<br />

teaching methods, playground supervision.<br />

PED 215. Basic Athletic Training 2–3 credits<br />

First in a series of athletic training courses that<br />

introduces basic principles and techniques in the<br />

profession of athletic training. Allows the student<br />

to gain a working knowledge of the basic skills<br />

required to become a certified athletic trainer.<br />

The following content areas are covered but the<br />

course is not limited to these areas: 1) prevention<br />

of athletic injuries, 2) evaluation of athletic<br />

injuries, 3) first aid and emergency procedures, 4)<br />

therapeutic exercise, 5) therapeutic modalities,<br />

and 6) administration of athletic training.<br />

Athletic Training majors are required to register<br />

for 3 credit hours.<br />

PED 220. Introduction to Motor Skills and<br />

Aerobic Development<br />

2 credits<br />

For physical education majors/minors only.<br />

Develops basic locomotion and non-locomotion<br />

skills as well as developing a fitness profile for<br />

each participant. Taken in freshman or sophomore<br />

year. Class will focus on motor skill development<br />

and progression as well as health-related<br />

fitness, especially aerobic fitness and development.<br />

PED 221. Skills in Team Sports 2 credits<br />

Basic through advanced motor skill development<br />

in team handball, soccer, and volleyball. For<br />

Physical Education majors/minors only.<br />

Prerequisite: PED 220. Prerequisite for PED 316.<br />

PED 222. Skills in Individual Sports 2 credits<br />

Develops motor skill abilities in individual sports<br />

of tennis, badminton, and golf taken in the freshman<br />

or sophomore years. For physical education<br />

majors/minor only. Prerequisite: PED 220.<br />

Prerequisite for PED 316.<br />

PED 260. Motor Learning<br />

2 credits<br />

The interplay of subsystems as they interact to<br />

explain human behavior in the area of motor<br />

learning and performance. Systems include<br />

human behaviors such as serving a tennis ball,<br />

hitting a golf ball, kicking a soccer ball.<br />
