Advanced study of grammar, stylistics, and<br />

vocabulary. Development of both written and<br />

oral skills. Emphasis on acquisition of composition<br />

skills. Readings on contemporary French<br />

culture. Prerequisites: FREN 201, 202; four years<br />

of high school French or equivalent.<br />

+FREN 302. French Composition and<br />

Conversation II<br />

3 credits<br />

Continuation of FREN 301 with greater emphasis<br />

on conversational skills and use of some colloquial<br />

French. Readings of French texts.<br />

Prerequisites: FREN 201, 202; four years of high<br />

school French or equivalent. Recommended:<br />

FREN 301.<br />

FREN 310. Special Topics in French 3–9 credits<br />

Topics, sometimes a literary genre or period,<br />

which are dealt with in more detail than is possible<br />

in a survey of literature course, or work in<br />

syntax or vocabulary building as a means of<br />

expression, or problematic points in grammar.<br />

Topics to be announced. May be repeated if topics<br />

are different. Prerequisites: FREN 301, 302.<br />

FREN 320. Independent French 1–6 credits<br />

Department approval. Repeatable. Prerequisites:<br />

FREN 301, 302; five years of high school French<br />

or equivalent.<br />

German<br />

Requirements for a Teaching or Non-Teaching<br />

Major: 18 semester credits of German at the 300-<br />

level, including at least six credits of German literature,<br />

fulfilled only by studying abroad.<br />

+ = Applicable toward general education degree requirements<br />

WI = Writing intensive course<br />

Teaching majors need to complete a program of<br />

study approved by both the Language and<br />

Education Department chairs.<br />

Requirements for a Teaching or Non-Teaching<br />

Minor: 12 semester credits of German in courses<br />

at the 300-level. <strong>St</strong>udents who minor in German<br />

must take at least six hours on campus.<br />

Acquaints the student with German through<br />

experience in the five language skills of understanding,<br />

speaking, reading, writing and culture.<br />
