utilized by physical therapists and other<br />

health care professionals engaged in patient<br />

examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis,<br />

intervention, and outcomes of diseases and disorders<br />

of the major organ systems. The role of the<br />

physical therapist as the 1st contact practitioner<br />

and the importance of collaboration and referral<br />

among health care professions will be emphasized.<br />

Clinical decision-making skills will be<br />

developed through participation in didactic, laboratory<br />

and clinical problem-solving experiences<br />

using an evidence-based practice approach.<br />

Clinical decisions will be formulated, in part,<br />

within the context of contemporary health care<br />

organizational structure and market forces.<br />

MPT 720. Musculoskeletal<br />

Therapeutics II<br />

2 credits<br />

This therapeutics course specifically addresses the<br />

spine using a quadrant approach. Peripheral<br />

joints will be reviewed as they impact the spine.<br />

Impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities<br />

related to the spine and peripheral joints<br />

(including TMJ) will be reviewed with regard to<br />

evaluation and intervention. Life span, cultural,<br />

gender and diversity issues will be considered in<br />

determining the level of intervention and prognosis.<br />

The clinical decision-making process is utilized<br />

both at a systems level for screening of<br />

more serious pathology and within the musculoskeletal<br />

system to determine cause and appropriate<br />

intervention for impairment(s).<br />

MPT 760. Physical Therapy<br />

Procedures II<br />

3 credits<br />

This course presents advanced specialized and<br />

current evaluation and treatment topics applicable<br />

to selected specific patient populations.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents will utilize their prior academic knowledge<br />

and clinical education experiences to<br />

explore through literature review, discussion, and<br />

patient demonstration, specialized topics in physical<br />

therapy. Topics include pediatrics, geriatrics,<br />

electroneuromyography, and aquatics. It is anticipated<br />

that the course will facilitate student interest<br />

in pursuing future speciality areas as well as<br />

increase their exposure to a greater variety of<br />

skills, techniques, and topics.<br />

MPT 782. Clinical Education<br />

5 credits<br />

This course includes the forth of five clinical education<br />

experiences provided in the curriculum.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents demonstrate entry-level competency in<br />

care of patients characteristically treated in their<br />

assigned area of clinical practice (acute care, neurological<br />

rehabilitation, or orthopedics). <strong>St</strong>udents<br />

participate in this eight-week affiliation under the<br />

supervision of the Clinical Instructor, a licensed<br />

PT whose facility affiliates with <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> for<br />

the purpose of providing clinical education experiences.<br />

Pass/No Pass course. In progress (IP)<br />

grade option available.<br />

MPT 784. Clinical Education<br />

5 credits<br />

This is the final clinical education experience during<br />

which students are expected to demonstrate<br />

entry-level competency in care of patients characteristically<br />

treated in their assigned area of clinical<br />

practice (acute care, neurological rehabilitation,<br />

or orthopedics). <strong>St</strong>udents participate in this<br />

eight-week affiliation under the supervision of<br />

their Clinical Instructor, a licensed PT whose<br />

facility affiliates with <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> for the purpose<br />

of providing clinical education experiences.<br />

Pass/No Pass course. In progress (IP) grade<br />

option available.<br />

PSYC 540. Neuroanatomy/<br />

Neurophysiology<br />

5 credits<br />

This course provides an in-depth review of neuroanatomy<br />

and neurophysiology, with special<br />

emphasis on relationships to normal human function<br />

and dysfunction resulting from maldevelopment<br />

or injury to the nervous system. The bases<br />

for sensation, perception and functional neuromuscular<br />

control will be emphasized. Correlated<br />

laboratories will introduce procedures used for<br />

the clinical examination of sensory and motor<br />

systems.<br />
