Development of basic concepts in social sciences<br />

Examines management techniques and<br />

methods such as inquiry, cooperative learning,<br />

and problem-solving. Several projects, including<br />

unit and lesson planning, are required. Field<br />

Examines literacy skills and instructional needs of<br />

middle and secondary school students, with<br />

emphasis on teaching and management techniques<br />

for a range of reading levels. <strong>St</strong>rategies for<br />

teaching comprehension study skills and recreational<br />

reading are introduced (field hours in a<br />

classroom setting). Prerequisites: EDUC 205,<br />

Prerequisites: EDUC 205, 284; ENGL 101 with a<br />

grade of B or better; college level literature class<br />

with grade of B or better or permission of<br />

Evaluation of quality literature written for and<br />

read by children and young adolescents. Methods<br />

of choosing books related to promoting reading<br />

as an enjoyable and meaningful activity and<br />

developing competence in presenting literature to<br />

children and adolescents (including oral interpretation<br />

of literature and creative dramatics).<br />
