General Information<br />

eligible student ordinarily may enroll for a maximum<br />

of three semester credits in any given term.<br />

Requirements for admission for early enrollment<br />

are high school transcripts, letter of recommendation<br />

from a high school counselor, written permission<br />

from a parent or guardian, and a meeting<br />

with an admissions counselor.<br />

Admission as a Non-Degree <strong>St</strong>udent<br />

A. Individuals may be <strong>admit</strong>ted as non-degree<br />

students by applying for non-degree status<br />

and signing a non-degree waiver. Non-degree<br />

students must complete a minimum of one<br />

full-time semester (12 semester credits) before<br />

requesting a review for degree status. The<br />

request must be accompanied by transcripts<br />

from all previous colleges and high school.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents will be subject to all admission policies<br />

at the time of status review. Non-degree<br />

students are not eligible for financial aid.<br />

B. <strong>St</strong>udents who apply as non-degree students<br />

will have their provisional status posted on<br />

their transcript. While the first 15 credits<br />

earned can be applied toward a degree, students<br />

do not have to apply for degree status<br />

when 15 credits have been earned. The option<br />

to switch to degree status is the decision of the<br />

student regardless of the number of credits.<br />

C. When a non-degree student has applied to the<br />

Admissions Office for degree status, the<br />

Records and Registration Office will be asked<br />

to review the academic record and notify<br />

Admissions regarding all credits earned and<br />

the academic status of the applicant.<br />

D. After acceptance, applicants’ transcripts will<br />

be posted with their new degree-seeking status,<br />

and they will be notified of how many<br />

credits they have earned.<br />

Note: <strong>St</strong>udents will always be notified in<br />

advance of their academic status and credits<br />

earned. The transcript will not be altered<br />

(regarding earned hours) until the student has<br />

had a chance, if necessary, to appeal to the<br />

Board of <strong>St</strong>udies.<br />

E. All full-time degree and non-degree students<br />

with academic work below a 2.00 GPA at<br />

SAU will be reviewed by the Board of <strong>St</strong>udies<br />

and will be notified of decisions regarding<br />

their academic status.<br />

International <strong>St</strong>udents<br />

International students are subject to the admissions<br />

policies of <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> <strong>University</strong> and to<br />

the regulations of the Immigration and<br />

Naturalization Service of the United <strong>St</strong>ates<br />

Department of Justice.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents from foreign countries who desire<br />

admission should have completed the form of<br />

secondary education making them eligible to seek<br />

admission to college studies (or equivalent) in<br />

their own country. International students must be<br />

able to read and write English, understand spoken<br />

English, and speak English in such a way as<br />

to be understood.<br />

Before <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> will issue a letter of acceptance<br />

or Form I-320 required by the United<br />

<strong>St</strong>ates Government, the applicant must take the<br />

Test of English as a Foreign language (TOEFL)<br />

and have the results sent to the Admissions<br />

Office. A minimum score of 500 is required at<br />

the undergraduate level and 550 at the graduate<br />

level.<br />

Application Procedures<br />

To be considered for admission as an entering<br />

undergraduate, students must:<br />

A. Complete the Application for Admissions to<br />

<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> <strong>University</strong> form and submit it to<br />

the Office of Admissions. A $25 non-refundable<br />

application fee is to be included with the<br />

application form.<br />

B. <strong>St</strong>udents who have no prior college work must<br />

have an official transcript of all high school<br />

work sent directly to the Office of Admissions.<br />

C. <strong>St</strong>udents who have attended another college or<br />

university must have an official transcript of<br />

all work attempted at each institution sent<br />

directly to the Office of Admissions.<br />
