Master of Accounting<br />

College of Business<br />

With the ever-changing environment in business<br />

due to technological advances, environmental<br />

changes, international competition, as well as<br />

government and tax regulation, today’s accountant<br />

must be prepared to meet the challenges of<br />

clients and other professionals. In order to be<br />

successful in this environment, the accountant<br />

needs to be professionally oriented, socially conscious,<br />

and academically prepared. The Master of<br />

Accounting program prepares individuals for<br />

professional careers and ultimately for leadership<br />

positions in today’s business world. In addition,<br />

in many states, those desiring to become certified<br />

as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) must<br />

have 150 hours of college education. A natural<br />

extension in the pursuit of this requirement is,<br />

and will continue to be, graduate education in<br />

the field of accounting.<br />

Master of Accounting Program<br />

The Master of Accounting program (MAcc),<br />

nationally accredited by the Association of<br />

Collegiate Business Schools and Programs<br />

(ACBSP), is an interdisciplinary program. The<br />

30-hour MAcc degree has the flexibility to<br />

accommodate students with a variety of educational<br />

backgrounds and career objectives.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents have the choice of taking nine to fifteen<br />

of the graduate credit hours required for the<br />

MAcc degree in the MBA or other graduate programs.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udent have the option to earn their<br />

degree in either an accelerated, a one-year, or a<br />

part-time two-year format, all with convenient<br />

day and evening class times.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

Individuals with a bachelor’s degree in any field<br />

from an accredited institution may apply to the<br />

<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> <strong>University</strong> MAcc program. Those<br />

with undergraduate accounting degrees have fulfilled<br />

all prerequisites. Those with other undergraduate<br />

degrees must fulfill prerequisite requirements.<br />

Official transcripts from each undergraduate<br />

and graduate school attended must be sent to<br />

the College of Business Graduate Office.<br />

Candidates for the MAcc program must submit<br />

an official score from the Graduate Management<br />

Admissions Test (GMAT). The test must be<br />

taken no longer than five (5) years prior to the<br />

student’s admission to the program. The admission<br />

formula is calculated by multiplying the<br />

undergraduate grade point average by 200 and<br />

adding the GMAT composite score. A minimum<br />

score of 1000 based on this formula is required<br />

for fully <strong>admit</strong>ted status.<br />

Admission <strong>St</strong>atus<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents may be <strong>admit</strong>ted for the fall, spring, or<br />

summer semesters.<br />

1. Full Admission. The student’s file is complete.<br />

The College of Business Graduate Office must<br />

have received; an application with the nonrefundable<br />

application fee; official transcripts;<br />

and an official GMAT score, not older than<br />

five (5) years. A minimum admission formula<br />

score of 1000 points is required.<br />

2. Conditional or Probationary occurs when a<br />

student has an admission formula score below<br />

the minimum standard of 1000 points, or s/he<br />

falls below a composite score of 450 on the<br />

GMAT. These applications are reviewed for<br />

conditional status on a case-by-case basis by<br />

MAcc program director along with the MBA<br />

Admissions and Retention Committee.<br />

Admissions decisions will take into consideration<br />

the student’ personal motivation to succeed.<br />

3. Provisional admission may be granted when<br />

the student’s file is incomplete. <strong>St</strong>udents must<br />

provide all missing information before the<br />

beginning of their second semester (or session)<br />

of classes or be dismissed from the program.<br />

4. Special <strong>St</strong>udent <strong>St</strong>atus. <strong>St</strong>udents may apply<br />

and register as a special student. Special students<br />

may take up to three courses without<br />

taking the GMAT. Special students are<br />
