Athletic Training Major<br />

Foundation Requirements for Athletic Training<br />

Majors: BIOL 101 or 103; CHEM 103 or 105;<br />

MATH 151 or 191 or successful comp out of<br />

math requirement; PED 260 or PSYC 403; PED<br />

149, WI-361, 390; BIOL 202, 203 (recommended),<br />

204; PSYC 105, SSCI 213. Core Requirements:<br />

PED 215, 290, 291, 292, 335, 336, 345,<br />

346, 391, 392, 404, 405, 406, 491, 492.<br />

Prior to application to the program, each student<br />

will be required to complete a minimum of<br />

50 clinical hours under the direct supervision of a<br />

NATA-BOC certified athletic trainer, in an athletic<br />

training setting in which the student has the<br />

opportunity to observe and participate, as well as<br />

learn about the role and function of an athletic<br />

trainer.<br />

Admission Procedures for Athletic Training<br />

1. Must have completed 12 hours of course credits<br />

at <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> or equivalent credit from an<br />

accredited institution of higher education.<br />

SATs who start their college career at <strong>St</strong>.<br />

<strong>Ambrose</strong> <strong>University</strong> are given priority for<br />

<strong>admit</strong>tance. <strong>St</strong>udents must be <strong>admit</strong>ted to <strong>St</strong>.<br />

<strong>Ambrose</strong> to be eligible to apply for admission<br />

to the Athletic Training program. Application<br />

forms are available in the Health, Physical<br />

Education, and Sport Science Department during<br />

the fall semester.<br />

2. The Athletic Training Office must receive<br />

application materials by January 31.<br />

3. <strong>St</strong>udents must show successful participation<br />

(i.e. accumulation of a minimum of 50 hours)<br />

in the clinical observation program in athletic<br />

training within the past year. The <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong><br />

Athletic Training Education program director<br />

makes opportunities available.<br />

4. <strong>St</strong>udents must possess a minimum cumulative<br />

GPA of 2.5. Transfer students must submit<br />

copies of all transcripts to the Records and<br />

Registration Office by the February 1 deadline.<br />

Transcripts are considered part of the<br />

application and are necessary to determine<br />

admission and placement. For the transfer student<br />

clinical observation opportunities outside<br />

of those made available by the program director<br />

may be accepted.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents who meet these basic criteria are<br />

invited to an on-campus interview. Acceptance<br />

into the program is based upon the aforementioned<br />

criteria and the interview to take place. All<br />

candidates will receive written notification of outcomes<br />

no later than March 1.<br />

Physical Education Teaching Majors<br />

All students should apply for <strong>admit</strong>tance to the<br />
