26 28 00 LOW VOLTAGE PROTECTIVE DEVICES
1.00 GENERAL
1.01 WORK INCLUDED
Furnish labor, materials, equipment and incidents to install overcurrent protective devices.
Electrical work shall be in accordance with Section 26 05 00, COMMON WORK RESULTS FOR
ELECTRICAL.
1.02 SUBMITTALS
Submittals shall be in accordance with Section 01 33 00, SUBMITTALS and shall include Record
Data for:
A. Fuses
B. Circuit Breakers
2.00 PRODUCTS
2.01 MATERIALS
A. FUSES: Current-limiting with 200,000 rms symmetrical amperes interrupting rating and U.L.
listed, manufactured by Bussmann, Ferraz Shawmut or Littlefuse. All fuses shall be by the
same Manufacturer. Fuses which are 600 amperes and smaller shall be Class RK1, dual
element, and have separated overload and short-circuit elements. The overload, time delay
element shall be spring-activated and utilize a eutectic alloy with a 284 degrees F. melting
point. The fuse shall hold 500% of its rated fuse current for a minimum of 10 seconds.
B. CIRCUIT BREAKERS: Bolt-on, thermal magnetic circuit breakers with the number of poles
and the ampere rating as indicated on the plans; capable of interrupting the symmetrical fault
current available to them; manufactured by Cutler-Hammer, General Electric or Square D.
Series rating of breakers shall not be permitted. Circuit breakers installed in existing
equipment shall match make, manufacturer and AIC rating of existing equipment where being
installed.
3.00 EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION
A. Install fuses in switches as scheduled. Install fuses on the line side of ballast-controlled light
fixtures when indicated. The fuses shall be sized by the fixture Manufacturer.
B. Unless otherwise indicated, mount the protective devices with the top of the cabinet or
enclosure at a maximum of 6'-6" above the finished floor. Properly align the protective
devices and adequately support them independently of the connecting raceways. Furnish and
install all components necessary for the support of the equipment when the building is not
suitable for direct mounting upon it.
C. Install overcurrent devices in accordance with the National Electrical Code.
