Section 3: Getting StartedTwist-Lock Cable ConnectionsRuggedCable mates to the TROLL 9500 and to Cable ConnectTROLL Coms with a bayonet-type Twist-Lock connector.4. Orient the flat sides so they will mate up, and insert the bodyconnector firmly into the cable connector.1. Remove the soft protective caps from the TROLL 9500 and thecable.5. Slide the sleeve on the cable toward the body until the pin on thebody pops into the round hole in the slot on the cable.TROLL 9500(or Cable Connect TROLL Com)CableTROLL 9500(or CableConnectTROLL Com)TIP: Keep the dust caps to protect the connector pins ando-ring when the connectors are not mated.FlatFlatCable6. Grasp the textured section of the cable connector in one handand the body in the other. Push and twist firmly so that the pinon the body slides along the slot on the cable and locks securelyinto the other hole. The “click” ensures the cable is securelyattached.2. Take a moment to look at the connectors. Each has a flat side.Note the pins on the body connector (one on each side) and thediagonal slots on the cable connector (one on each side).pinslotTo attach a Cable Connect TROLL Com, first remove the desiccantfrom the cable (if present): Grasp the textured section of the cableconnector in one hand and the desiccant in the other. Twist in oppositedirections to unlock the desiccant from the cable.Orient the “flats” so they will mate up, and insert the TROLL Comconnector firmly into the cable connector.3. Section 3: Getting StartedEstablish Communication with the MP TROLL95001. Start Win-Situ 4 by double-clicking the shortcut created on thedesktop during installation .Or tap the Pocket-Situ 4 shortcut on the PDA Start Menu.2. The Connection Wizard starts to help you set up the port:• Connection type:• Direct, for use when the Multi-Parameter TROLL 9500 isattached directly to the host PC• Modem for a dial-up modem• Spread-Spectrum Radio• Devices connected: Select “one” to speed up connection to asingle device, or “more than one” for a network.• Port: Select the COM port to which the device is attached. Ifusing a USB TROLL Com, be sure to select the correct COMport (see the box on page 14). For a Modem connection, enterthe phone number—up to 40 characters; a comma designates apause.• Baud Rate: Select any rate (19,200 is the default); baud ratesare automatically synchronized between devices and the hostPC.• Name (optional): A default connection name is suggested.• To have the wizard connect automatically to the attacheddevice(s), be sure the option Connect and find devices on“Finish” is checked.3. When you finish the Wizard, the software “finds” (connects to) thedevice, and displays it in the Navigation tree.TIP: For an introduction to the appearance and controls ofthe user interface, turn to Section 4, Control Software.Set the Real-Time ClockData collection schedules depend on the device’s real-time clock,shown in the lower right corner of the desktop PC interface. If thedevice clock is wrong, be sure to correct it before scheduling tests.Set the clock as follows:1. With the device selected in the Navigation tree, press Edit.2. In the Device Wizard, select Clock.3. Follow the instructions to synchronize the MP TROLL 9500’s internalreal-time clock to the host computer.4. When you finish the Wizard, Win-Situ sends the information to thedevice and updates the display.TIP: Due to the size of the PDA screen, the device clock isnot displayed in the Pocket-Situ interface. We recommendyou edit the device—Tap the device, tap Edit, tap Clock— tosynchronize the device clock to the PDA clock.Select the deviceSet the clockDevice clockQ:A:What do I do if the MP TROLL 9500 does not appear inthe Navigation tree?First try double-clicking the connection.
