Section 4: Control SoftwareThe User InterfaceWin-Situ 4 and Pocket-Situ 4 use the familiar “Navigation tree” todisplay your instrument network. The tree appears on the left of thescreen in Win-Situ, and at the top of the screen in Pocket-Situ. Theremainder of the screen is an “Information pane” with details aboutthe “node” you have selected in the tree. The selected node and itsinformation constitute a “view” in the interface.The Win-Situ 4 Application Window (desktop/laptop PC)Navigation treeInformation paneThe Navigation TreeAt the top of the tree is the“Home” site (the hostSiteFlow-Sense WizardData FolderConnectionDeviceParametersTestscomputer). Belowthis is the Flow-Sense Wizard (seeSection 20), then theData Folder containingtests that have beenextracted from the device to the host computer. This is followed byone or more connections (COM ports), and then one or more devices(Multi-Parameter TROLLs or other In-Situ instruments) accessiblethrough each COM port. The Device node is further expandable toshow the parameters the device can measure and the tests containedin the device’s memory.The site, wizard, data folder, connection, devices, parameters, andtests are all “nodes” in the Navigation tree. The symbol + means anode can be expanded to show more nodes below it. Section 4: Control SoftwareSoftware FunctionsConfiguring the PortWhen you start Win-Situ or Pocket-Situ for the first time, a new, emptysite called “Home” is displayed at the top of the Navigation tree. TheConnection Wizard starts automatically to help you add a connectionto the site, specifying your computer’s COM port, desired baud rate,and other port properties.To add a new connection to the site—or if the Connection Wizard doesnot start automatically for some reason—proceed as follows:1. Select the site.2. Click or tap Add....Establishing Communication with the MP TROLL 9500New ConnectionThe last option in the Connection Wizard is to Connect and find deviceson “Finish.” If you select this option, the software will automaticallyestablish communication with the MP TROLL 9500.If you did not select this option, proceed as for an existing connection .Existing ConnectionEach time you launch the software, the site and the connection savedin your last session are displayed in the Navigation tree. To connect:1. Select the connection.2. Click Find. Or just double-click the connection.1122To change the properties of a connection:1. Select the connection.2. Click or tap Edit....Win-Situ or Pocket-Situ will open the connection, synchronize thebaud rate, locate the device, and display it in the Navigation tree.3. Click to select the MP TROLL 9500 in the Navigation tree.If the device’s remaining battery capacity is 5% or less, thedevice may not be displayed in the tree. Replace thebatteries before continuing.1Displaying Device InformationTo delete a connection from the site:1. Select the connection.2. Click or tap Delete.For additional information on the port properties prompted by the ConnectionWizard, refer to Section 3, Getting Started.2When you select the MP TROLL 9500 in the Navigation tree, the softwarefirst retrieves information about the device, then automaticallydetects the installed sensors and displays them in the tree.TIP: If one or more sensors is incorrectly installed, an errormessage will be displayed. Simply remove the sensor andinstall it in the correct position, then “refresh” the device todisplay the sensors in the Parameters list.With the MP TROLL selected in the Navigation tree, the Informationpane displays a wealth of information about the device, as shown inthe Win-Situ screen on the following page.
