Section 3: Getting Started• Alternatively, you may click Accept to store the early values. TheAccept button becomes available when NOMINAL or STABLE isindicated for all 3 parameters.• If there is no polarographic D.O. sensor, the Quick Cal is complete.Go to step 14.If performing a Polarographic Dissolved Oxygen calibration,continue with steps 10-13.10. Polarographic Dissolved Oxygen: Before the D.O. segment ofthe Quick Cal Wizard starts, you will be asked how you want tohandle barometric pressure.11. To complete the calibration, expose the polarographicD.O. sensor to air: Without disconnectingthe cable, invert the probe so that themembrane at the tip of the sensor is in air andthe temperature sensor is immersed in fluid.This will probably require you to remove the endcap from the Cal Cup and pour some fluid out.While you have the cap off, remove any dropletson the membrane by blotting gently with aclean swab or the corner of a tissue. Re-attachthe end cap loosely to insure the volume is notpressurized.TIP: For proper venting, loosen the end cap until a smallhole in the threads near the o-ring is at least partly visible.12. In the DO calibration screen, select the membrane type, stampedon the membrane module (if not indicated, select 1-mil Teflon).13. Click Run to begin the stabilization.The display will continuously update as readings are taken andBarometric pressure is important in converting measurement ofD.O. concentration to percent saturation, and a value is requiredfor accurate calibration. If the TROLL 9500 cable is vented, anaccurate barometric pressure value can be read from the onboardbarometric pressure sensor. If the TROLL cable is non-vented,then a barometric pressure value should be entered manually.12Do one of the following in this screen:• If the TROLL 9500 is on vented cable now and will take measurementsusing vented cable, click No — and you may want tocheck the “Don’t ask me this again” box.• If the device is on vented cable now but will take measurementson non-vented cable, click Yes. In the Edit Barometric Channelscreen, check the box indicating non-vented cable for measurementsbut vented cable for calibration/programming.• If the device is on non-vented cable now and will take measurementson non-vented cable, click Yes. In the Edit BarometricChannel screen, check the box indicating non-vented cablefor measurements and enter a barometric pressure value. Forhelp, see Section 9, Monitoring Barometric Pressure.13compared against the stabilization criteria (see sidebar on theprevious page).14. Section 3: Getting StartedThe Wizard displays a final calibration screen like the one belowat the end of the Quick Calibration procedure. This informationis also stored in the Calibration Report. Click Finish to continue.When you click Finish, the calibration information is written to thesensors.Set Up Custom Pressure/Level MeasurementsYou can configure a pressure channel to display measurements justthe way you want them—as raw pressure head above the sensor, asdepth, or as water level with a reference. The specified settings areeasily changed from one mode to another, and any choice can beredone or undone later, when viewing test data.1. With the MP TROLL 9500 connected to a host PC, select the pressureparameter in the Navigation tree.2. Click or tap Edit....1The calibrated sensors are ready to take measurements.Ideally, you chould calibrate just before using the MP TROLL 9500.However, if the the instrument will not be put to use immediately, storeit as follows:• Leave the sensors installed. Remove the Cal Cup and rinse itand the sensors. Add about 50-100 mL of tap water to the CalCup. Return the probe to the Cal Cup for transport to the field.Calibrate the Extended SensorsFor some sensors, the Quick-Cal procedure is not available. A traditionalcalibration is recommended. To calibrate, select the sensor inthe Parameters list and click or tap Calibrate to launch a CalibrationWizard. Complete calibration information is in the following sections ofthis manual:RDO Optical Dissolved Oxygen Section 13 (second part)Ammonium Section 15Chloride Section 16Nitrate Section 17Turbidity Section 182The Parameter Wizard will help you enter the required information.The choices are explained in greater detail in Section 7 below.3. When you finish the Wizard, the information is written to the deviceand the display is updated.
