Die Vielzahl exzellenter staatlicher Forschungsinstitute
in München ist mit der Industrie aufs Engste verzahnt.
Innovationen werden dadurch schnell in marktfähige
Produkte und Dienstleistungen umgesetzt. Im
Forschungs- und Innovationszentrum der BMW Group
arbeiten rund 7 000 Beschäftigte an neuen Fahrzeugen
und Technologien. München ist nicht nur Sitz der
Siemens Konzernzentrale, der Konzern unterhält am
Standort München-Perlach mit circa 1 000 Wissenschaftlern
auch seinen größten Forschungscampus.
General Electric ist seit 2004 mit dem GE Global Research
Europe Forschungszentrum in Garching präsent.
200 Wissenschaftler forschen dort in den Bereichen
Erneuerbare Energien und Energiesysteme, Fertigungsverfahren
für Verbundwerkstoffe, Mess- und Regeltechnik,
Turbomaschinen und Medizintechnik. Auch
GlaxoSmithKline, MAN, MTU, Knorr-Bremse, NTT Do-
CoMo und zahlreiche weitere Unternehmen betreiben
in München Forschung und Entwicklung. Der Anteil
der Forschungsausgaben am BIP liegt in der Stadt mit
4,1 Prozent deutlich über dem Bundesdurchschnitt.
Patentstadt München
In München befinden sich die Hauptsitze des Deutschen
Patent- und Markenamtes sowie des Europäischen
Patentamtes. Die bayerische Landeshauptstadt
ist zudem Sitz des Bundespatentgerichts, des Max-
Planck-Instituts für Geistiges Eigentum, Wettbewerbsund
Steuerrecht, der Patentanwaltskammer sowie des
Munich Intellectual Property Law Center. Ein vielfältiges
Netz an Patentanwälten und weiteren Dienstleistungsunternehmen
ergänzen diese Einrichtungen.
Viele Patente gehen in die Region: Der Anteil Bayerns
an den deutschen veröffentlichten Patenten des Europäischen
Patentamts und des Deutschen Patent- und
Markenamts liegt bei 27 Prozent.
Gründerstadt München
Die INSM-Studie “Städteranking 2012” belegt: Nirgendwo
sonst in Deutschland ist der Saldo von Gewerbeanmeldungen
und -abmeldungen so günstig wie
in München. 2011 lag dieser Wert bei 4,5 je 1 000
Einwohnern. Insgesamt wurden im Jahr 2011 24 900
Gewerbe in München angemeldet. Diese Zahlen verdeutlichen
die starke Gründungsdynamik in der bayerischen
Landeshauptstadt. Dies gilt auch für moderne

the GDP in Munich is at 4.1%, and thus is much higher
than the German average.
Patent city Munich
Munich is home to the German Patent Office and the
European Patent Office. The Bavarian state capital is
also the seat of the German Patent Court, the Max-
Planck Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition
and Tax Law, the chamber of patent lawyers and the
Munich Intellectual Property Law Center. A large and
diverse group of patent attorneys and other service
companies complement these facilities. Many patents
are granted in the region: Bavaria’s share of all patents
published by the German and European patent
offices is 27%.
Start-up city Munich
The INSM study “City Ranking 2012” shows: nowhere
else in Germany is the balance of company registrations
and cancellations as favourable as in Munich. In
2011 this figure was 4.5 per 1,000 inhabitants. In all,
24,900 companies were registered in Munich in 2011.
These figures indicate the strong company start-up
dynamic in the Bavarian capital. This also applies to
modern high-tech and growth industries. According
to a recent investigation by the Federal Association of
Information Economy, Telecommunication and New
Media (BITKOM), Munich is the no. 1 IT start-up city
in Germany. Nowhere else are so many IT companies
founded in relation to the population as in Munich. Together
with the International Chamber of Commerce
for Munich and Upper Bavaria, Munich has supported
company founders since 1998 with the Munich Company
Start-Up Office (MEB). The free information offered
by the MEB ranges from formalities of founding
a company, choosing the right legal form and company
concept, through to public funding aids, seminars,
founder networks and founder centres. In addition
to information events, the MEB also offers individual
counselling, in which questions about the business
plan, financing or tax can be clarified. Around 1,000
