München von oben – Alter Peter/
Rathausturm
Wer die vielen Stufen des engen Turmaufgangs des
„Alten Peters“ erklimmt, Münchens ältester Pfarrkirche,
oder den Aufzug zur Aussichtsplattform des Rathausturmes
nimmt, wird mit einem traumhaften Blick
über die Dächer der Altstadt und grünen Oasen Münchens
belohnt. Dass das Bergpanorama und die glitzernden
Gewässer des Alpenvorlandes manchmal zum
Greifen nah erscheinen , liegt am Föhn, an diesem warmen,
launischen Fallwind aus dem Süden, der optimale
Fernsicht ermöglicht. Als die höchsten Bauwerke im
Zentrum dominieren die Kirchtürme das Stadtbild, allen
voran die beiden Türme der Frauenkirche, der gotischen
Dom- und Stadtpfarrkirche; mit ihren Kuppelhauben
ist sie das unverwechselbare Wahrzeichen Münchens.
Dass die moderne Metropole in ihrem Zentrum überschaubar
geblieben ist, macht ihren Charme aus. Am
Altstadtring und an den kurvigen Gassen ist noch der
Verlauf der ehemaligen Stadtmauer zu erkennen. Das
Gebiet der heutigen Altstadt zwischen Sendlinger Tor,
Isartor, Odeonsplatz und Stachus entspricht im Kern
dem Umfang der Siedlung des 14. Jahrhunderts.
Von der Isarbrücke zum Alten Peter –
Gründungsgeschichte
Die erste erhaltene Urkunde, in der München erwähnt
wird, stammt aus dem Jahr 1158. In ihr legte Kaiser

The reward for climbing the many steps in the narrow
tower staircase of the Old Peter, Munich’s oldest parish
church, or for taking the lift to the observation deck
of the Town Hall Tower, is a magnificent view across
the roofs of the old town and parks of Munich. If the
Alpine panorama and shimmering waters of the Alpine
foothills seem so near you could touch them, that is
the Föhn wind from the south that clears the air and
ensures optimum visibility. The church towers dominate
the cityscape as its tallest buildings, above all the
two towers of the Church of Our Lady, the Gothic cathedral
and municipal parish church. Its onion-shaped
towers are the unmistakable landmark of Munich.
The fact that this modern metropolis has remained almost
quaint at its centre is its big charm. On the city’s
inner ring road and in the curved lanes, the old city
walls can still be made out. The old town area between
the city gates Sendlinger Tor, Isartor, Odeonsplatz and
Stachus show the core of the town and how it began
with the settlement in the 14th century.

The oldest official document still available in which
Munich is mentioned comes from the year 1158. In it,
emperor Friedrich I Barbarossa decreed that Munich
