Wenn man noch direkt im Herzen dieser Stadt, unmittelbar
am Dom, im Haus vom „Nürnberger Bratwurstglöckl“,
aufgewachsen ist, wenn man noch die
Vorkriegszeit, auch die Nachkriegsjahre, kennen und
erleben durfte, dann ist schon klar, wie sehr man mit
diesem Stück München als Heimat verbunden ist.
Wenn man damals im „Gassl“ noch das Glockenspiel
vom Rathausturm klar und deutlich vernehmen konnte,
dann hört und blickt man zuweilen zurück in die
„oide Zeit“.
Doch ist München in der Entwicklung ja nicht stehen
geblieben. Vieles hat sich in all den Jahren und Jahrzehnten
verändert. Und trotzdem, man kann sie noch
finden, die wirkliche „Weltstadt mit Herz“. Nicht nur
im Hofbräuhaus oder in Schwabing.
Am Viktualienmarkt bietet die ganze Welt ihre
„Schmankerl-Vielfalt“. Die Schrannenhalle ist wieder
eröffnet und das Café Frischhut hält ab 5.30 Uhr für
die Morgenkundschaft und die Marktfrauen seine frischen
Schmalznudeln bereit. Ein Stückerl weiter das
Karl Valentin-Liesl Karlstadt-Musäum, im zweiten Turm
mit einem liebevoll gestalteten Volkssänger-Ausstellungsraum.
Und, „drüberhalb“ der Isar, das weltberühmte
„Deutsche Museum“. Ein Anziehungspunkt für
Groß und Klein.
An der Isar sollte man sich auch ein bisserl Zeit nehmen
und stehen bleiben und horchen, was die zu erzählen
hat. Oder kennen Sie vielleicht das viel besungene
„Isarmärchen“?

If you have grown up at the heart of this town, right
near the cathedral, in the same building as the sausage
restaurant Nürnberger Bratwurstglöckl, and if
you can still remember the post-war period, there will
be no doubt about why you are emotionally so close
to this piece of Munich. If back then you could clearly
hear the Glockenspiel ringing out from the town hall
tower from the narrow alley where you lived, then it is
no surprise that you sometimes reminisce about the
old days.
But Munich has developed since then. Many things
have changed over the years and decades, and yet you
can still find it, the true big city with the big heart; just
not only in the Hofbräuhaus or in Schwabing.
The whole world offers its special delicacies at the Viktualienmarkt.
The nearby Schrannenhalle has opened
again and Café Frischhut opens its doors to start selling
its famed Schmalznudel doughnuts at 5.30 in the
morning, for early birds and the people who have their
stands at the Viktualienmarkt. Just a stone’s throw
away is the Karl Valentin-Liesl Karlstadt-Musäum, and
in the other tower of the Isartor gate to the city there
is a charming folk-singer exhibition. Then on the other
side of the Isar river is the world famous Deutsches
Museum – a big attraction for young and old.
At the Isar you should also take a moment, stop and
listen what the river has to say. Or perhaps you know
the popular “Isar fairy tale”?
