Kunstfans lassen sich nicht die interessanten Ausstellungen
der Hypo-Kunsthalle, die auch zu den Fünf Höfen
gehört, entgehen.
Odeonsplatz und Ludwigstraße
An kaum einem anderen Platz wirkt München italienischer
als am Odeonsplatz. Lässt sich doch München
gerne als „die nördlichste Stadt Italiens“ bezeichnen
– mit einem Augenzwinkern, versteht sich.
In diesem einzigartigen „Open Air Café“ gibt man sich
dem „dolce far niente“ hin; vor der Kulisse der sonnengelben
Theatinerkirche St. Kajetan servieren die
Kellner „Cappuci“, Prosecco und Ferien-im-Süden-
Gefühl. Imposant heben sich die Kuppel und die beiden
volutenverzierten Türme der barocken Hofkirche
vor dem Himmel ab – solch ein Bauwerk hatte es im
München des 17. Jahrhunderts bis dahin noch nicht
gegeben, wohl aber in Venedig oder Rom. Kein Wunder,
geht doch der Entwurf der Theatinerkirche auf
den italienischen Baumeister Agostino Barelli zurück,
den Henriette Adelaide von Savoyen mitbrachte, als
sie als die Gemahlin von Kurfürst Ferdinand Maria an
den bayerischen Hof nach München zog. Zur nächtlich
illuminierten Bühne wird der Odeonsplatz, wenn hier
im Sommer das Klassik Open Air stattfindet, und ein
begeistertes Publikum unter freiem Himmel den Klängen
der Konzerte lauscht.
Odeonsplatz and Ludwigstraße
Munich jokingly sees itself as “Italian’s northernmost
city”, and almost nowhere else is Munich more Italian
than at Odeonsplatz. At this unique “open air café”
of a square, one succumbs to the “dolce far niente”.
Against the backdrop of the yellow St. Kajetan
Theatinerkirche church, waiters serve “cappuci”, Prosecco
and southern flair. The dome and two voluteadorned
towers of the Baroque court church rise into
the sky – a building the likes of which had never been
seen before in 17th century Munich; but only in Venice
or Rome. And yes, the design of the Theatinerkirche
originates from the Italian master builder Agostino
Barelli, whom Henriette Adelaide von Savoyen brought
with her to Munich when she moved into the Bavarian
Court as the new wife of prince elect Ferdinand Maria.
Odeonsplatz becomes an illuminated stage when the
Classic Open Air concert is held in summer before an
enthusiastic throng of classical music fans.
From an architectural point of view, the large extension
of the square to the north of the Theatinerkirche
and Residenz is designed in the spirit of the Italian
Renaissance. The Feldherrnhalle has Florentine inspiration,
and standing on Odeonsplatz it is impossible
not to feel how the city grew during the era of the
young Bavarian kingdom. The new axis, stretching out
