Bot. y Zool.Cada uno de los grupos en que se dividen los géneros y que se componen de individuosque, además de los caracteres genéricos, tienen en común otros caracteres por los cualesse asemejan entre sí y se distinguen de los de las demás especies. La especie se subdivide aveces en variedades o razas. Este significado, que la Real Academia ha decidido perpetuaren el acervo lingüístico de nuestro idioma, corresponde al concepto linneano deespecie. Pero, no es el único.
