EditorialHacia una visión perspectivista <strong>de</strong> la traducciónVicent Montalt i Resurrecció *Des<strong>de</strong> distintos puntos <strong>de</strong> vista, dos hombresmiran el mismo paisaje. Sin embargo,no ven lo mismo. La distinta situación haceque el paisaje se organice ante ambos<strong>de</strong> distinta manera. Lo que para uno ocupael primer término y acusa con vigor todos sus<strong>de</strong>talles, para el otro se halla en el últimoy queda oscuro y borroso. A<strong>de</strong>más, como lascosas puestas unas <strong>de</strong>trás <strong>de</strong> otras se ocultanen todo o en parte, cada uno <strong>de</strong> ellos percibiráporciones <strong>de</strong>l paisaje que al otro no llegan.¿Tendría sentido que cada cual<strong>de</strong>clarase falso el paisaje ajeno?José Ortega y Gasset: El tema <strong>de</strong> nuestro tiempo.La pregunta que cierra la cita abre un universo <strong>de</strong> respuestasy más preguntas en torno a la comprensión <strong>de</strong> uno mismo y<strong>de</strong>l otro. A<strong>de</strong>más, apunta hacia algunas cuestiones fundamentalessobre la traducción, en particular, la relación con el otro,ya sea el autor original, el lector meta, el cliente, el editor, otrotraductor, un experto en la materia <strong>de</strong>l texto o cualquier otroagente implicado en el proceso <strong>de</strong> comunicación.No hay manera <strong>de</strong> conocer la realidad si no es <strong>de</strong>s<strong>de</strong> unaperspectiva concreta, que limita ese conocimiento al tiempoque lo posibilita. El acto <strong>de</strong> conocer, pues, va intrínsecamenteligado a la limitación que impone la perspectiva. Una limitaciónque no ha <strong>de</strong> verse como un problema, sino como unacualidad <strong>de</strong>l conocimiento <strong>de</strong> la realidad. Como dice el filósofo,«La perspectiva es uno <strong>de</strong> los componentes <strong>de</strong> la realidad.Lejos <strong>de</strong> ser su <strong>de</strong>formación, es su organización».Las perspectivas pue<strong>de</strong>n tener muchas dimensiones. Unacivilización, una cultura, una nación, un movimiento social,un partido político, una ten<strong>de</strong>ncia artística, una escuela <strong>de</strong>pensamiento, una profesión, una disciplina académica, etc.,perciben la realidad <strong>de</strong>s<strong>de</strong> perspectivas concretas y diferenciadas<strong>de</strong>l resto. Ortega y Gasset llega hasta el individuo, quees don<strong>de</strong> radica la esencia <strong>de</strong> la cuestión: «Cada vida es unpunto <strong>de</strong> vista sobre el universo. En rigor, lo que ella ve no lopue<strong>de</strong> ver otra. Cada individuo [...] es un órgano insustituiblepara la conquista <strong>de</strong> la verdad».Traducir teatro me permite ver que los dramaturgos sonlos verda<strong>de</strong>ros expertos en puntos <strong>de</strong> vista: cada personajese podría <strong>de</strong>finir como una perspectiva individual sobre esemundo co-creado y compartido con los <strong>de</strong>más personajes.Su trabajo consiste fundamentalmente en construirlas, en entrelazarlas,en explorarlas y explotarlas hasta sus límites, enhacerlas converger y divergir. Y una <strong>de</strong> las enseñanzas <strong>de</strong>lteatro es que cada personaje es único y lucha por su existencia,pero esta <strong>de</strong>pen<strong>de</strong> <strong>de</strong> la existencia <strong>de</strong> los <strong>de</strong>más, ya que esuna parte integrante <strong>de</strong> un todo más complejo que trascien<strong>de</strong>al personaje individual. Del mismo modo, en una orquestacada cuerda <strong>de</strong>fien<strong>de</strong> su partitura, que es diferente a las <strong>de</strong>más,pero sabiendo que sin las <strong>de</strong>más cuerdas quedaría en unvacío absurdo y no tendría sentido su existencia. Este sentido<strong>de</strong> orquestación y dialogismo tan consustancial al teatro y ala música está en la esencia <strong>de</strong>l perspectivismo que pretendoacercar, como pretexto para la reflexión y el <strong>de</strong>bate, al terreno<strong>de</strong> la traducción.Así pues, el problema está, no tanto en la limitación queimpone la perspectiva, sino en que a menudo estamos tan inmersosen nuestra perspectiva que llegamos a ignorar o rechazarel hecho <strong>de</strong> que hay más, muchas más perspectivas.Y esta actitud pue<strong>de</strong> hacernos confundir la realidad con laperspectiva propia, ya sea individual o compartida.Bien meditados, estos pensamientos orteguianos suponenun reconocimiento y una reivindicación, en primer lugar, <strong>de</strong> ladiversidad (cultural, lingüística, social, histórica, etc.); y, enúltimo término, <strong>de</strong> la inter<strong>de</strong>pen<strong>de</strong>ncia, la complementariedady el diálogo entre personas, socieda<strong>de</strong>s, culturas, lenguas, etc.,dos pilares fundamentales <strong>de</strong> cualquier aproximación a la traducción.Asimismo, constituyen un potente antídoto contratodo tipo <strong>de</strong> visiones absolutas, dogmatismos y polarizacionesa los que, lamentablemente, nos estamos acostumbrando,no solo en el ámbito político e i<strong>de</strong>ológico, sino también en elprofesional y académico. También contienen una <strong>de</strong>fensa <strong>de</strong>lindividuo y su libertad <strong>de</strong> pensamiento frente a la obedienciaciega a la autoridad indiscutible otorgada al otro, que es elreverso <strong>de</strong> la moneda <strong>de</strong> la negación <strong>de</strong>l otro. Ni la obedienciaciega a la perspectiva <strong>de</strong>l otro ni su negación parecen ser elcamino para conquistar la verdad, algo que, por cierto, tambiénincumbe a los traductores.Estas iluminaciones <strong>de</strong>l autor <strong>de</strong> Miseria y esplendor <strong>de</strong>la traducción suscitan algunas reflexiones en torno a la importancia<strong>de</strong> <strong>de</strong>sarrollar una visión panorámica, dinámica,flexible, integradora, dialógica y holística en el ámbito <strong>de</strong> latraducción y la traductología; en <strong>de</strong>finitiva, una visión perspectivista.El primer aspecto que me gustaría resaltar es que existeuna cierta ambivalencia en la actividad traductora en lo tocantea las perspectivas. Por una parte, inevitablemente producimosy consumimos traducciones, cada cual <strong>de</strong>s<strong>de</strong> su perspectivapersonal concreta.
