CONDENSED LYNCEAN CONSTITUTIONS 95If in the region where they find themselves something new happenswith regard to literary questions or matters close to the Lynceans, theyshall imme<strong>di</strong>ately inform the Prince; if a Lyncean should request a reporton some fact that happens in the same region, with serenity and quicknessthey shall expound the propitious and adverse cases and render themknown to the Prince, so that he shall be able to give them support withadvice and assistance in accordance with his possibilities.At the moment <strong>of</strong> death they shall leave their ring to a Lyncean <strong>of</strong> theirchoice, so that it may be conserved and protected in their perpetual memory;and they shall do the same if it should happen to them to enter aregion where it is not permitted to wear the ring.All benefactors <strong>of</strong> the Lynceans shall be paid homage with honor, love,and praise.They shall spend the day <strong>of</strong> 17 August in gladness; it was on that dayin fact that the Lyncean College and Order was founded.They shall never enrol in another <strong>Academy</strong> or similar College <strong>of</strong> scholarsnor shall they even assume the name. Nevertheless, it shall be licit forthem to intervene and exercise themselves in such institutions; it shall bepermitted that in the lyceums, from time to time, meetings may be heldon initiative <strong>of</strong> the Lynceans themselves for research activities, admittingexternal scholars and upright friends, without the Lynceans ever assuminga name other than their Lyncean one, nor under any circumstancesshall they communicate it to others or permit others to assume it; but ifin such meetings they encounter some upright and stu<strong>di</strong>ous man, suitableto the Lyncean life, they shall inform the Prince so that, if he should judgeit opportune, he can enrol him as a member <strong>of</strong> the Lynceans.They shall know that they have the right not only to express their ownopinion or vote in the election <strong>of</strong> the Prince upon his death, and to frequentthe lyceums whenever they are constituted and to study in theirlibraries, but also to choose their own successor who shall remain in theOrder with their same functions, and be welcomed in the lyceums to partake<strong>of</strong> the provisions; they have the further right to receive necessarygoods, which they shall use, however, accor<strong>di</strong>ng to the modalitiesexpounded in the Lynceographum; the Lynceans shall attend the publication<strong>of</strong> the such modalities in a volume on the part <strong>of</strong> the Prince, whoshall be the drafter; if they should have need <strong>of</strong> them beforehand theyshall ask for news from the Chancellor and from the Counsellor.
96RISTRETTO DELLE COSTITUZIONI LINCEESe vengono chiamati a colloquio dal Principe o dal vice-Principe, finchérisiedono nella loro città vi si rechino e portino nelle faccende in questioneil loro parere, come sarà opportuno all’utilità dell’Or<strong>di</strong>ne linceo. Seinvece sono convocati mentre sono assenti, inviino delle epistole.Ogni volta che avvenga <strong>di</strong> <strong>di</strong>scutere con i fratelli a voce o per iscrittoe ci sia bisogno <strong>di</strong> esortarli all’osservanza <strong>di</strong> tali norme, e se vedranno chealcuni vengono meno a tale osservanza, si preoccupino <strong>di</strong> correggerli conestrema umanità, soprattutto quelli che vivono nei Licei: se tra questiaccadrà qualcosa <strong>di</strong> sconveniente o fuori delle regole, dovrà essere imme<strong>di</strong>atamentecomunicato al Principe e reso noto agli stessi.Se sarà loro richiesto <strong>di</strong> occuparsi <strong>di</strong> qualche affare o <strong>di</strong> assumeredegli incarichi per conto dell’Or<strong>di</strong>ne linceo, sono pregati, finché possono,<strong>di</strong> accettare <strong>di</strong> buon grado.Nelle insegne gentilizie, nella zona ornamentale posta all’apice del clipeo,che si allarga quasi a formare un altro piccolo scudo ovale o rotondo,pongano la lince.Devono pregare Dio per l’incremento e la crescita dell’Or<strong>di</strong>ne e per lafelicità laboriosa e la salute dei fratelli e onorare piamente i santi protettoricelesti: la Beata Maria sempre Vergine, Madre <strong>di</strong> Dio, il BeatoGiovanni Apostolo e Evangelista, la Beata Caterina Vergine e Martire etutti i Beati Filos<strong>of</strong>i.
