Counselling
A process where a mentor,
manager or supervisor gives
advice and psychological
support to an employee to
help him/her to resolve
personal problems that affect
job performance.

Performance Coaching
A process where an expert
orientates an inexperienced
person to the workplace
and transfers jobrelated
skills and attitudes.
* The expert models and
demonstrates the skill
* Feedback is direct and
conducive to learning and
improved performance.
Performance
Management
This process focuses
on the identification,
monitoring and
achievement of
agreed upon performance
outcomes, in a number of
critical performance areas,
within the framework of a set
of agreed-upon behaviours.
* The employee is a fullyfledged
job incumbent who
has mastered the essential job
competencies.
