Die Ökotourismusorganisation AVETUR (siehe Kapitel VI.4.1.6.) versucht in
dieser Angelegenheit Ordnung zu schaffen und der lokalen Bevölkerung das
Anliegen der Konservation näher zu bringen. Denn für viele Hotels ist noch
immer der ökonomische Erfolg wichtiger als der ökologische.
“No, no hay. Nosotros estamos tratando, exigiendo por una parte al
Ministerio de Turismo y al Ministerio del Ambiente que a través de una
oficina que hay en Loja de CETUR y ahora que se está creando una
oficina de turismo en el municipio, que tratamos de integrarnos para
regular todo, y que todo sea a través de este concepto de ecoturismo.
Nosotros explícitamente, como AVETUR, tratamos de organizar a todos
aquí en Vilcabamba, es un poco difícil. Ya estamos con los guías,
intentamos con todos los hoteleros, pero siempre hay otros criterios
mucho más avanzados por el dinero y cosas así, que no logramos unirlos
de esa forma; pero como va habiendo frutos y se va viendo por otro lado
entonces ellos también están teniendo conocimiento. Así queremos hacer
con los restaurantes también, con todas personas que hacen turismo aquí
en Vilcabamba, que tienen el concepto de conservación, de ecoturismo.”

Um einen “echten” Ökotourismus zu gewährleisten, ist es wichtig, dass alle
am Tourismus beteiligten Personen wie Hotelbesitzer, Restaurantbesitzer,
Naturführer,etc. zusammenarbeiten.
In diesem Kontext betonte einer meiner Interviewpartner die beachtliche
Rolle von Reiseführern, um Ökotourismus zu fördern. Den Touristen soll
bewusst gemacht werden, dass nicht nur der Preis, Service, etc. von
Bedeutung sind, sondern auch Umweltaspekte.
„So travel-guides are in that sense most important, because their
suggestions, recommendations will be followed by great numbers of
people without questioning to much. And fortunately their recommendation
in sensitive areas cannot be as sensitive to those areas as they ought to
be. You see. In other words: they could help create more ecotourism in
areas that merited it by their deeper concern of their recommendations and
the behind-the-scenes-effect of their recommendations. That is not merely
on the benefit of the tourist that they should be recommended because of
the price, cleanliness and friendliness on the surface but to see also if that
may not be hiding wrongdoings to the culture or to the nature of the places
they visit. We all can do a bit of that. It is impossible to be perfect, but just
try for bettering the area or to be in the mind of both the ecotourism and
