In Vilcabamba gibt es zwei Leute, die ein Stück Land besitzen, welches sich
im markierten Gebiet des Podocarpus Nationalparks befindet. Beide
besaßen das Stück Land schon vor dem Zeitpunkt der Grenzziehung, erst
danach stellte sich heraus, dass sich Teile des Privatlandes im markierten
Gebiet des Nationalparks befinden.
Im Fall von Joy Horton wird das private Landstück für den Naturschutz
genutzt und es gab noch keine Schwierigkeiten mit dem Parkmanagement.
Jedoch betont Joy Horton, dass sie generell Tourismus auf ihrem Land nicht
haben wollen würde.
“I have between 2000 – 3000 hectares that I bought before the Park was
created. And then the Park was created and it turned out that about 2/3 is
inside the limits of the Park. Now the situation has – for the last 15 years
the Park Management and myself have co-existed with no problems
because the objective of the piece of land – I call it our ‘bosque’ that’s the
name of the one I bought it – is for protection and I have a management
plan and that management plan was looked up when the management
plan for the Park was made – the most recent one. And we haven’t had
any problems but there is still – when we haven’t made any major
decisions, if the Park which soon would be managed not by the Park
management but by another organisation perhaps the municipal or
provincial body – they might decide to build a road up to a hotel lets say –
then I might decide to say: ‘No, you can’t take people up there that’s the
part you don’t have permits!’ Nothing like that happens but it might in the
future and I’m not interested in having tourism because there is enough
trails in Vilcabamba well managed, there is enough room for many more
tourists I would like to do maybe some tourism that’s more of a scientific
tourism or a nature tourism that’s focused like palm experts or fern experts,
very few but well-paid tours where people come that are looking for certain

Charly Wyatt besitzt ebenfalls ein Stück Land, welches sich innerhalb des
Podocarpus Nationalparks befindet. Als Besitzer von Cabañas und
Tourismusanbieter hatte er des öfteren Konflikte mit angrenzenden
Landbesitzern. So erzählte er mir von folgendem Vorfall:
