Gerade das Interesse diverser Organisationen und Wissenschaftler an der
Durchführung von Studien im Nationalpark trägt dazu bei, dass
verschiedenste andere Projekte leichter eine Zustimmung zur Finanzierung
bekommen.

Vilcabamba is known to have a good climate and there are also things that
are attractive to people that it has inexpensive hotels in an environment
you don’t have to work out someone is stabbing you, or raping you, that it’s
tranquilo. That the tourists on the gringo trail – they meet each other, they
meet each other in Columbia ,Peru and Bolivia and they ask: ‘What’s nice?
What’s not nice?’ and they have their little book and they say: ‘Is Baños
nice, is Riobamba nice, where would you go, would you go here, how
much does it cost?’. And so they talk about Vilcabamba. And so I think
Vilcabamba – because of many people that come to Vilcabamba don’t
come for the Park also, so there’s a combination. But the services that are
offered like the restaurants and the tourist office, the offices where you can
go and buy maps, get a guide and rent bikes, and the Park attraction. So I
think it’s kind of a mutual benefit when the Park benefits people who come
just for Vilcabamba tourism and also that tourism benefits – it can help
subsidise the needs of those services for the people to come for the Park.
Cause not a lot come for the Park, I think more just come because it’s a

Dass Vilcabamba noch stärker mit dem Podocarpus Nationalpark assoziiert
wird, würde die Errichtung von Ökolodges in der Pufferzone des Parks
bewirken, wie Orlando Falco formulierte:
“But nevertheless it is long overdue that the people can actively associate
Vilcabamba and PNP from now on in the future. Creating ecolodges
around the area of the puffer-zone and organising tourism along the
regulated form, and clarified form would be definitely help a lot.” (Orlando
Falco 2001, Vilcabamba)
