she came (250 pound), she stayed here for three month, and every day
she was walking a little and the village is about 2 km from here. And at the
end she was walking to the village three times a day, lost something like
75 pound and she went back in shape. I don’t want to say that her
sickness was cured, but she was in a lot better shape than when she
came. And this is a real proof. It’s something that I saw. And myself, well I
don’t know, I live it every day. But I went to Canada after 5 years and all
my friends told me: ‘You look younger, better, …’. But I could not return the
compliment to them because they all look older, so sick, fat and
everything, it was unbelievable. I think that’s a proof that some things

Wie in Kapitel VI.3. erwähnt, war der wissenschaftliche Tourismus
ausschlaggebend für die touristische Entwicklung in Vilcabamba. Bis heute
interessieren sich Wissenschaftler für den Ort und das Phänomen der
Langlebigkeit, besonders japanische Mediziner besuchen Vilcabamba
kontinuierlich, um Forschungen durchzuführen.
“Siempre vienen y filman documentales de Vilcabamba. Lo que pasa es
que los Japoneses en principio fueron muy interesados por Vilcabamba.
Desde hace más o menos por el ´64 /´65 o ´70 vinieron los primeros
científicos de todo del mundo. Entre ellos estaba un señor Kokichi Otani
que donó mucho dinero para la investigación y estuvo muy preocupado
por Vilcabamba. Y el nombre de él lleva el hospital de Vilcabamba.
Entonces el donó también muchos equipos muy buenos para el hospital.
Siempre están en relación a través del hospital, o a través de cualquier
institución; mandan información, o también que vengan a filmar, vengan a
ver los estudios que hay sobre problemas de corazón, sobre la medicina.
Hace unos meses estuvieron también un grupo de jubilados – creo que de
los Estados Unidos o de algunos países que se juntaron para venir a
hacer operaciones, todo tipo de la vista; a mucha gente operaron, como
este, trataron, como más o menos 70(?) personas diarias. Eso es bueno
para nosotros, que vengan de otras partes, porque ellos lo toman una
forma seria y confirman y lo dicen tal como es la verdad. Entonces eso se
va hacia fuera y la gente le gusta a fuera tal como es la verdad, eso es
