� Nathaniel Hawthorne<br />
Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804-1864) is one of the<br />
most important and influential American writers of<br />
the 19th century. He is known for a quite modern<br />
style of writing that is settled between a 'dark' romanticism<br />
and symbolism. In our course we will<br />
focus on his most famous novel 'The Scarlet Letter'<br />
(1850); we will also talk about the historical contexts<br />
of this book that takes place in the Puritan<br />
Boston in the 17th century. Moreover, we will discuss<br />
some of his shorter prose.<br />
We will use the following edition: Nathaniel Hawthorne:<br />
'The Scarlet Letter And Other Writings'<br />
(Norton Critical Edition, ISBN 9780393979534, ca.<br />

Gemeinsamer Europäischer Referenzrahmen: A1<br />
Wenn Sie das 60. Lebensjahr vollendet haben,<br />
können Sie sich gemeinsam mit anderen Teilnehmenden<br />
Ihrer Altersgruppe in langsam fortschreitenden<br />
Kursen einmal wöchentlich mit der<br />
englischen Sprache beschäftigen. Das gemäßigte<br />
Lerntempo lässt Ihnen auch genügend Zeit zum<br />
Nacharbeiten des erarbeiteten Lernstoffs.<br />
Das Teilnehmerentgelt wird auf Antrag für Teilnehmende<br />
mit nachweislich geringem Einkommen, z.B.<br />

Dieser Kurs ist für Teilnehmende o h n e bzw. mit<br />
sehr geringen, aber wenig praktizierten Vorkenntnissen<br />
der englischen Sprache, die sich fundierter<br />
mit der Sprache beschäftigen wollen. Nicht das<br />
Schreiben oder Grammatik stehen im Mittelpunkt,<br />
sondern vielmehr das Sprechen einfacher Sätze in<br />
Alltagssituationen.<br />
