Select watersheds described herein characterize the past, present, <strong>and</strong> future human<br />

activities <strong>and</strong> their impacts on the area. The Southwest Coast region encompasses all<br />

Pacific Coast rivers south of Cape Blanco, Oregon through southern California. NMFS<br />

has identified the Cape Blanco area as an ESU/DPS biogeographic boundary for Chinook<br />

<strong>and</strong> coho salmon, <strong>and</strong> steelhead based on strong genetic, life history, ecological <strong>and</strong><br />

habitat differences north <strong>and</strong> south of this l<strong>and</strong>mark. Major rivers contained in this
