—¡Ya quizá va maneciendo, O!...
Pedro metió la mano llena de luz en la
cebadera, mientras miraba las estrellas,
con la boca abierta.
—Ya mero son las cuatro, vos.
—¡Tá haciendo friyo, O!...
—Es que está golpiada lagua...
—¡Sentí que me soplaban la nuca!...
—¿Eee?...
—¡Horita!...
—¡Yastás vos con miedo!...
—¡Me da miedo la Zigua...
—¡Qué cobija sos, oyó! ¿Quién siasusta
por babosadas?
El cipote temblaba, un poco de frío, un
poco de miedo.
—Monós, oyó; miacaban de soplar otra
vuelta. ¡Monós, te digo!
Se puso a gemir. Pedro desenredó, con
el último pescado, un poco de alarma.
—¡No siás cobija, vos; ya no te güelvo
a trer!...

“Maybe it’s because it’s getting light...”
Pedro put his hand full of light into the
bait bag while looking at the stars with
his mouth agape.
“It’s almost four in the morning, pal.”
“It’s cold now!”
“It’s ‘cause the wind’s comin’ off the
water...”
“It felt like somebody was blowing on
my neck!”
“What?”
“Just now!”
“Can’t believe you is scared!”
“I’m scared of the Sigua...”
“You’re such a whimp, kid! Who gets
scared of such worthless crap?”
The kid was shaking, partly from the
cold, partly from fear.
“Let’s go, man. I just felt the blowin’ on
my neck again. C’mon, let’s go!”
Pedro started to grumble as he pulled
in the net. Along with the last fish came
a feeling of alarm.
“Don’t be such a scaredy cat. I’ll never
bring you again!”
