No llovía. En el cantón 257 , desde las
dos de la tarde, se oyó el saltito de
duende del tambor, llamando a los de
la rogación: “tom, tom, tom; tototom,
tom, tom; tototom, tom, tom...”.
El calor estaba estacado en el llano,
como un cuero de res. “Tom, tom, tom,
tototom, tom, tom...”.
Todo se doraba; todo se caía; todo se
tostaba. En un remiendo de talpetate, la
culebra dormía enroscada y era como
el yagual del pesado cán taro de la sed.
Ligeros cirros 258 medían el cielo. Las
leguas huían hacia las montañas del
contorno, lejanas y azules, sentadas y
