Luciano subía ya, por la doble cuerda
de una persoga 323 que había logra do
trabar en un gancho.
—Ai state; no te vayás, O; guá encender
estaba acondicionado, ispiando pabajo,
curioso y cabeceante como un oso
colmenero.
dijo, feliz:
167
Luciano was climbing up with the
double rope that he managed to fasten
on a branch that looked like a hook.
“Stay put. Don’t go nowhere. I’ma
gonna light a match and I’ma tell ya
what I see.”
Without putting down the bucket,
Moncho looked at Luciano effortlessly
climb. With his mouth agape and
forehead wrinkled because of the
brightness of the morning, he smiled
calculating their mischief.
Luciano finally discovered the bottom
of the hole. Swinging he grabbed the
edge with his foot of brave clay. In a few
seconds he was positioned, curiously
peering down and nodding like a
honey bear. 324
“What you see, pal?”
Luciano stuck his head out and looked
toward the pasture.
“I don’t see nothing, man. It’s dark. All
I can hear is a sound like a scrapping
spoon, like the scratch of an armadillo.”
“Watch out for snakes! Don’t be
stupid!”
Luciano Pereira lit a match and stared.
Once the flame died he came back to
talk to Moncho. He said happily:
323. Not in RAE or other dictionaries. Cuerda larga, soga.
324. In Spanish “Oso Colmenero” is a kind of anteater called “Northern Tamandua.”
